How to Check if CeraVe Is Original: Real vs Fake CeraVe in Bangladesh

How to Check if CeraVe Is Original: Real vs Fake CeraVe in Bangladesh

CeraVe is one of the most faked skincare brands in the world. In a 2025 investigation by the UK consumer group Which?, CeraVe was one of several brands where products bought from online marketplace sellers turned out to be likely counterfeits, with differences in packaging, missing safety markings and a different texture and smell. In Bangladesh, where CeraVe is imported and prices vary a lot, fakes are a real risk. This guide shows you how to check if your CeraVe is original before it touches your skin.

Why buying original CeraVe matters

Original CeraVe is formulated with dermatologists, with three essential ceramides that help restore the skin barrier. That is exactly why people love it for dry, sensitive and acne-prone skin, and why it is worth making sure you get the real thing.

10 checks to tell real CeraVe from fake

  1. Price. CeraVe is imported, so a price far below the usual market rate is the biggest warning sign. Very cheap “original CeraVe” usually is not.
  2. Smell. CeraVe’s core products, like the Moisturizing Cream, Hydrating Cleanser and PM Lotion, are fragrance-free. A perfumed or chemical smell is a red flag.
  3. Texture and colour. Compare with what you have used before. Watery, grainy, separated or off-colour product is a warning.
  4. Print quality. Real packs have sharp, even printing. Look for blurred text, spelling mistakes, crooked labels or colours that look slightly off.
  5. Ingredient list. CeraVe’s three essential ceramides appear as Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP and Ceramide EOP on the label. A missing or messy ingredient list is a bad sign.
  6. Batch code and expiry. The code printed on the tube or tub should be clear and should match the code on the box if there is one. Missing or smudged codes are suspicious.
  7. Seal. Tubs and pumps should be sealed. A broken or missing seal means do not use it.
  8. Barcode. See the barcode section below.
  9. Market and language. CeraVe is sold in different versions for the US, UK, Europe and Asia. Packs can look slightly different, which is normal, but the text should be clean and consistent for that market.
  10. Seller. Buy from established shops that show real stock, a return policy and a physical delivery process, not from random social media posts with only stock photos.

Use the batch code to check freshness

Batch code checker websites show roughly when your CeraVe was made, so you can enjoy it fresh and at its best. Combine it with the checks above, and with buying from a trusted shop, for complete confidence.

How to read the barcode

The first digits of a barcode show the country where the barcode number was registered (the GS1 prefix). It does not always show where the product was made, but it should match the market printed on the pack.

Barcode starts with Registered in
000 to 139 USA and Canada
300 to 379 France
400 to 440 Germany
500 to 509 United Kingdom
880 South Korea
890 India
690 to 699 China

Search the full barcode number on Google. A genuine product’s barcode usually brings up the same product name and size on official or major retailer sites. If it shows a different product, or nothing at all, ask the seller.

What to do if you think your CeraVe is fake

  • Stop using it if anything feels wrong, such as burning or itching.
  • Contact the seller with photos of the pack, code and product.
  • Next time, order from a trusted shop like Lume and Layer and check your order at delivery.
