Retinal is not retinol. That single distinction is the reason the Celimax Retinal Booster exists, and it is the first thing worth understanding before you buy it — because this 15 ml tube contains 0.1% retinaldehyde, a form of vitamin A that works considerably faster than the retinol most people have tried.

This page covers what is actually in the tube, how retinal differs from retinol, how to introduce it without wrecking your skin barrier, and who should leave it alone. We have written it plainly, including the parts that are inconvenient, because a vitamin A product you use wrongly is worse than no vitamin A product at all.

Product Overview

Celimax is a Korean brand built around targeted, single-purpose formulas, and the Vita-A range is where it puts its vitamin A work. The Celimax Retinal Booster — full name The Vita-A Retinal Shot Tightening Booster — is the most concentrated product in that line.

The Celimax Retinal Booster is a 15 ml tube of thick, cream-textured booster rather than a runny serum. That matters practically: you are meant to use a pin-sized amount on targeted areas, not spread it across your whole face like a moisturiser, so 15 ml lasts far longer than the small tube suggests.

The formula is built on three named actives — 0.1% retinal, 1% panthenol and 3% Matrixyl 3000 — sitting on a base that also includes niacinamide, adenosine, tocopherol and ascorbic acid. Celimax adds its A-Shot delivery system: microscopic spicules that create temporary micro-channels in the skin surface so the retinal reaches deeper than it would on its own.

In Korea the product is registered as a dual-functional cosmetic for both whitening and wrinkle improvement, which is a regulated classification rather than a marketing line.

Retinal vs Retinol — the part most retailers get wrong

You will see this product listed elsewhere as a “retinol” booster. Several large international retailers print exactly that. It is wrong, and it matters.

Your skin can only use vitamin A in one final form: retinoic acid. Everything else has to convert. Retinol converts in two steps — retinol becomes retinal, retinal becomes retinoic acid. Retinal skips the first step, because it is already one conversion from the finished article.

The practical consequence for the Celimax Retinal Booster is speed. Retinal is generally accepted to work faster than retinol at a comparable concentration, which is why 0.1% retinal is not directly comparable to 0.1% retinol. It is a meaningfully stronger proposition.

The Korean ingredient list settles the question beyond argument: it reads 레틴알, which is retinal. Retinol would be 레티놀. The Celimax Retinal Booster is a retinal product, and you should treat it with the respect that implies.

Key Benefits

Celimax states the following for the Celimax Retinal Booster:

Firms skin and reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles, faster than conventional retinol
Minimises the appearance of pores and refines skin texture
Supports the look of improved elasticity
Brightens — the Korean regulatory classification covers whitening as well as wrinkle improvement
Delivers actives deeper through the A-Shot spicule system

These are cosmetic, appearance-level benefits of the Celimax Retinal Booster. Vitamin A products improve how skin looks and behaves over months of consistent use; nothing in this tube is a medical treatment, and no cosmetic removes wrinkles permanently.

Key Ingredients

Retinal, 0.1%

The reason to buy the Celimax Retinal Booster. Retinaldehyde at 0.1% is a serious working concentration — not a token inclusion. It is the active that drives the firming, texture and fine-line results, and it is also the reason the introduction guidance further down this page is not optional.

Panthenol, 1%

Provitamin B5, included deliberately as a counterweight. Vitamin A products tend to dry and irritate; panthenol supports the barrier and helps skin hold water. At 1% it is doing real work rather than appearing on the label for decoration.

Matrixyl 3000, 3%

A trade name rather than an INCI name, which is why you will not find “Matrixyl” in the ingredient list. It is the pairing of palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 — the last two entries on the list. These are among the better-studied peptides in cosmetic science for the appearance of firmness and fine lines, and 3% is a generous inclusion.

Niacinamide

Sits sixth on the ingredient list, above panthenol, so it is present at a meaningful level even though Celimax does not publish a percentage. It supports the barrier and helps with tone — a sensible partner for a retinoid.

Adenosine, Tocopherol and Ascorbic Acid

Adenosine is a well-established Korean anti-wrinkle ingredient. Tocopherol is vitamin E and ascorbic acid is vitamin C — both antioxidants, and both included here in small stabilising amounts rather than as headline actives. Do not buy this as a vitamin C product.

Hydrolyzed Sponge — the A-Shot spicules

This is the unusual one, and it is worth knowing about before you apply it. Hydrolyzed sponge provides microscopic needle-like spicules derived from marine sponge. They create temporary micro-channels in the very top layer of skin, which is how the Celimax Retinal Booster gets its actives further down than a plain cream would.

Two things follow from that. It is the reason the product tingles, which we explain below. And it means the formula is not vegan — the spicules are animal-derived.

Why It Tingles — and when to worry

A slight tingling or prickling sensation on application is expected with the Celimax Retinal Booster. It comes from the spicules, not from acid, and Celimax states plainly that it is normal.

What is not normal is burning, stinging that builds rather than fades, redness that persists, or flaking and tightness that does not settle. That is your barrier telling you to reduce frequency. Drop back to every third night, add a plain moisturiser, and build up again slowly.

One more thing worth expecting: retinal is naturally yellow-orange, and it can leave a faint yellow cast on the skin after application. Celimax notes this is normal and washes off completely at the next cleanse. It is a property of the molecule, not a fault in your tube.

How 0.1% Retinal Compares

The most common question about the Celimax Retinal Booster is how it stacks up against whatever you are using now. There is no official conversion chart — potency depends on the formulation, the delivery system and your own skin — but the ordering below is well established in dermatology, and it is the honest way to place this product.

Form of vitamin A	Conversion steps to retinoic acid	Relative strength
Retinyl palmitate / retinyl esters	Three	Weakest — largely a starter ingredient
Retinol	Two	The familiar over-the-counter standard
Retinal (retinaldehyde) — this product	One	Notably stronger than retinol at the same percentage
Tretinoin (retinoic acid)	None — already active	Prescription strength

Two practical conclusions follow. If you have been using a 0.3% or 0.5% retinol comfortably, the Celimax Retinal Booster is a sensible next step rather than a sideways one. If you have never used vitamin A at all, start somewhere gentler and come back to this in a few months — beginning at retinal usually means a fortnight of irritation that puts people off retinoids entirely.

What the table does not capture is tolerance. Retinal is often reported as better tolerated than its strength would suggest, and the 1% panthenol and niacinamide in this formula are there precisely to soften the landing. That is a genuine advantage over a bare retinol serum — but it is not a licence to skip the two-week introduction below.

Who Should Use It

The Celimax Retinal Booster suits you if you are dealing with:

Fine lines and early wrinkles you want to actively treat rather than merely hydrate
Loss of firmness around the cheeks, jaw or forehead
Enlarged-looking pores and rough texture
A retinol routine that has stopped producing results and needs stepping up
Uneven tone alongside texture concerns

It is the wrong product for you if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if your barrier is currently compromised, if you have never used any vitamin A product and want a gentle first step, or if you are unwilling to wear sunscreen daily. On that last point we are not being pious — retinoids increase photosensitivity, and using one without sun protection actively works against the result you are paying for.

Suitable Skin Types

Skin type	Suitability
Normal	Excellent
Oily	Excellent — retinal also helps texture and pore appearance
Combination	Excellent
Dry	Good — buffer with moisturiser and build up slowly
Mature	Excellent — this is the target user
Sensitive	Caution — patch test, start every third night, expect to go slowly
Pregnant or breastfeeding	Not suitable — see warnings

Celimax lists the Celimax Retinal Booster as suitable for all skin types, and describes it as hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, and free from parabens, SLS and fragrance.

How to Use the Celimax Retinal Booster

Night only. Retinal in the Celimax Retinal Booster degrades in light and increases sun sensitivity. This is an evening product without exception.
Cleanse and dry your face completely. Applying any retinoid to damp skin increases penetration and irritation. Wait a few minutes if you need to.
Take a pin-sized amount. Not a pea, not a pump — a small dot. This is a booster, not a moisturiser.
Apply to targeted areas and blend outward. Avoid the eye area entirely, and go lightly around the nose and mouth where skin is thinner.
Wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
Follow with moisturiser to buffer.
Sunscreen the next morning, as the final step of your routine. Non-negotiable.

The First Two Weeks

Celimax is specific about introducing the Celimax Retinal Booster, and following the guidance is the difference between getting results and abandoning the tube in a drawer.

Weeks one and two: use the Celimax Retinal Booster every other night only, with no exceptions.

After two weeks: increase toward nightly use, but only as your skin tolerates it. Many people settle at four or five nights a week permanently, and that is a perfectly good outcome.

If irritation appears, Celimax’s own guidance is to reduce both the amount and the frequency and to layer a soothing moisturiser — not to push through. Retinisation is real, but there is a difference between mild adjustment and a damaged barrier, and the second one costs you months.

Where It Fits in Your Routine

Step	Product	Notes
1	Cleanser	Oil cleanse then foam if wearing makeup or sunscreen
2	Toner	Optional, hydrating only — no exfoliating toner on retinal nights
3	Dry down	Wait until skin is completely dry
4	Celimax Retinal Booster	Pin-sized amount, targeted areas
5	Moisturiser	Buffers and supports the barrier
6	Sunscreen	Next morning, every morning

What to Combine It With

The Celimax Retinal Booster pairs well with hydrating toners and essences, hyaluronic acid, ceramide and panthenol moisturisers, centella and madecassoside soothing products, and — on the mornings after — a high-protection sunscreen.

Browse the rest of our serums range, everything for ageing and fine lines, or the full Celimax collection to build a routine around it.

Do Not Combine With

Other retinoids. Tretinoin, adapalene, another retinol serum — pick one, and if you pick the Celimax Retinal Booster, drop the rest.
AHAs and BHAs on the same night. Alternate nights instead.
High-strength vitamin C on the same night. Use it in the morning.
Physical scrubs. Not while you are retinising.
Any professional treatment — peels, lasers, waxing. Stop the Celimax Retinal Booster a week either side.

Realistic Results

First two weeks: possible mild dryness, light flaking, a slight tingle on application. This is adjustment, not damage, provided it stays mild.

Four to six weeks on the Celimax Retinal Booster: texture starts to look smoother and pores look less obvious. This is usually the first genuinely visible change.

Eight to twelve weeks: fine lines look softened and tone looks more even. Retinal works faster than retinol but it is still measured in months, not days.

Three months and beyond: continued firmness and texture benefits with consistent use. Stop, and the gains fade — vitamin A results are maintained, not banked.

What it will not do: remove deep static wrinkles, replace an in-clinic procedure, or work at all if you skip sunscreen. Results vary between people.

Size and Value

Detail	Value
Size	15 ml
Retinal concentration	0.1%
Typical use	Pin-sized amount, targeted areas, evenings
Expected duration	Roughly 3–4 months at 4–5 nights a week
Period after opening	6 months

The 6-month period after opening is the practical limit here rather than the tube running out. Retinal is light-sensitive and degrades once air reaches it, so plan to finish the Celimax Retinal Booster within six months of first use.

Authenticity and Storage

This is authentic Celimax, made in South Korea and carefully selected from trusted suppliers and established distribution channels. We review packaging, labelling and condition before dispatch.

Store it away from direct sunlight and heat, with the cap firmly closed. The opaque tube exists to protect the retinal from light — do not decant it into anything else. Celimax states a shelf life of 30 months from manufacture and 6 months after opening.

Warnings and Precautions

Evening use only. Apply sunscreen every morning while using this product.
Avoid the eye area. Celimax specifies this directly.
Patch test the Celimax Retinal Booster first if your skin is allergic, sensitive, or prone to trouble.
Do not use on broken or wounded skin.
Consult a doctor if redness, swelling or itching develops on the treated area during or after use, particularly following sun exposure.
A slight tingling on application is normal. Burning or persistent stinging is not — stop and let your barrier recover.
Retinal may leave a faint yellow tint on skin. This is normal and washes off.
Reduce amount and frequency if irritation occurs, and use a soothing moisturiser.
Do not combine with other exfoliating products in the same routine.
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Topical vitamin A is generally avoided at this time — speak to your doctor.
Keep out of reach of children and store away from direct sunlight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Celimax Retinal Booster retinol or retinal?
Retinal — retinaldehyde. Some international retailers list it as retinol, which is incorrect. The Korean ingredient list reads 레틴알, which is unambiguously retinal.

Is 0.1% retinal strong?
Yes. Retinal converts to retinoic acid in one step rather than two, so 0.1% retinal is not comparable to 0.1% retinol — treat the Celimax Retinal Booster as a step up, not a beginner product.

Why does it tingle?
The A-Shot spicules, made from hydrolyzed sponge, create micro-channels in the skin surface. Celimax states the tingling is normal. Burning is not.

Can I use the Celimax Retinal Booster in the morning?
No. Retinal degrades in light and increases sun sensitivity. Evening only, sunscreen every morning.

Can I use it around my eyes?
No. Celimax specifically instructs you to avoid the eye area.

Can I use it if I am pregnant?
We do not recommend it. Topical vitamin A is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding — please speak to your doctor.

Is the Celimax Retinal Booster vegan?
No. The formula contains hydrolyzed sponge, which is marine animal-derived. Celimax makes no vegan or cruelty-free claim for this product and neither do we.

Why is my skin slightly yellow after applying it?
Retinal is a yellow-orange molecule. A faint cast is normal and washes off at your next cleanse.

How long will one 15 ml tube last?
Around three to four months at four or five nights a week, because the correct dose is a pin-sized amount. Use it within six months of opening either way.

Can I use the Celimax Retinal Booster with vitamin C?
Yes, but not in the same routine. Vitamin C in the morning, retinal at night.

What if my skin flakes?
Mild flaking in the first fortnight is normal adjustment. Reduce frequency, add moisturiser, and build back up. Persistent irritation means stop.

Where is it made?
South Korea.

How long does delivery take?
We deliver the Celimax Retinal Booster across Bangladesh. Delivery charges and timelines are shown at checkout.

Should You Buy It?

Buy the Celimax Retinal Booster if you already understand vitamin A, want something that works faster than the retinol you have been using, and will commit to evening application and daily sunscreen. At 0.1% retinal with 3% Matrixyl 3000 and 1% panthenol behind it, this is a properly formulated, genuinely active product — not a trace inclusion trading on an ingredient name.

Do not buy it as a first retinoid, do not buy it if you are pregnant, and do not buy it if sunscreen is not already a daily habit. Vitamin A rewards patience and punishes carelessness, and the Celimax Retinal Booster is potent enough to do both.

Fifteen millilitres. Three to four months of nights. Authentic Celimax, delivered across Bangladesh by Lume & Layer.
