The L’Oréal Paris Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo 400ml is the Thailand-market pump bottle of one of L’Oréal Paris’s best-known repair ranges. If you know this line as “Elvive” from the UK or the Middle East, you are looking at the same family under the name L’Oréal uses in Thailand and several other markets. This Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo is made for dry, damaged hair, and this page explains exactly what is inside it, what the brand itself claims, and how to get the best from it in Bangladesh’s heat and humidity.

The ingredient list below comes from L’Oréal Paris Thailand’s own product page, and every claim is attributed to the brand. Where information is missing, we say so instead of guessing.

Elseve or Elvive? Why the Name Changes by Country

L’Oréal Paris sells its mass-market hair care under two names. In the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States the range is called Elvive. In Thailand, the Middle East and a number of other markets the same family is called Elseve. The red-and-white Total Repair 5 design and the promise of tackling five signs of damage are shared across regions, which is why shoppers often treat the two names as interchangeable.

They are close relatives, but not guaranteed to be identical, because formulas are registered market by market. That is why this page uses the Thai ingredient list only. The Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo you receive from us is the Thailand pack, so the Thai list is the one that matches the bottle in your hand.

What L’Oréal Paris Says This Shampoo Does

On its Thai website, L’Oréal Paris describes the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo as a deep-repair formula for damaged hair that combines what it calls KERATINxs, a small-particle technology, with concentrated repairing ingredients. The brand says it targets five problems of damaged hair so that hair looks healthy again.

The five benefits the brand lists, translated from Thai, are:

No.	Brand claim (translated from L’Oréal Paris Thailand)
1	Hair looks healthier
2	Moisture
3	Shine
4	Softness and smoothness
5	Fewer split ends

The brand also states that the shampoo contains KERATINxs and concentrated repairing ingredients at up to 3%, and that their small particles penetrate into the hair fibre to help restore damaged hair from within, with an asterisk clarifying that “within” refers to the cuticle layer structure. In its product summary, L’Oréal Thailand adds that micro-ceramide helps fill the hair structure so it feels stronger, with fewer split ends.

These are the brand’s own claims. We repeat them because they describe what the product is designed to do, not because we have tested them ourselves.

Full Ingredient List of the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo (Thailand INCI)

This is the complete ingredient list given by L’Oréal Paris Thailand for the Elseve Total Repair 5 Repairing Shampoo 400ml, in the order given by the brand. Part one: Aqua / Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Dimethicone, Sodium Chloride, CI 77891 / Titanium Dioxide, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Mica, Coco-Betaine, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Steareth-6, Acetic Acid, PEG-100 Stearate, Arginine, Trideceth-10.

Part two: Trideceth-3, Salicylic Acid, Limonene, Fumaric Acid, Linalool, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Amodimethicone, 2-Oleamido-1,3-Octadecanediol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Parfum / Fragrance, Carbomer, Serine, Citric Acid, Citronellol, Hexylene Glycol, Glycerin, Glycol Distearate. Formula reference as printed by the brand: F.I.L. C272929/1. That is 34 ingredients in total.

Formulas can be updated over time. If the list printed on your bottle differs from this one, the bottle is the authority for that unit.

Key Ingredients in the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo, Explained Honestly

An ingredient list reads from highest to lowest amount for ingredients above 1%, while ingredients at 1% or below may appear in any order. L’Oréal does not state the percentage of any single ingredient on the Thai page, so the notes below describe what each ingredient does and where it sits, not how much of it there is.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine and Coco-Betaine (positions 2, 3 and 9)

These three are the cleansing system of the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo. Sodium Laureth Sulfate is a widely used foaming cleanser that removes oil, sweat and styling residue. The two betaines are milder co-cleansers that make the lather creamier and soften the overall wash. This is a conventional, effective cleansing base, and it is not sulfate-free.

Dimethicone and Amodimethicone (positions 4 and 25)

Dimethicone is a silicone that coats the hair surface, reducing friction and helping strands feel smoother and look shinier. Amodimethicone is a conditioning silicone that tends to settle on the more damaged, negatively charged areas of the hair. Together they are a large part of why the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo leaves hair easier to comb.

Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (position 7)

This is a conditioning polymer made from guar. It is positively charged, so it clings to hair during rinsing and helps deposit the silicones. It is one reason hair feels softer after the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo, even before conditioner.

2-Oleamido-1,3-Octadecanediol (position 26)

This is a ceramide-type lipid, and it is the only ceramide ingredient in the list. L’Oréal Thailand mentions micro-ceramide in its product summary; this entry is the most likely match, although the brand does not spell out the link on the page. Ceramide-type lipids are used in hair care to help smooth the cuticle and reduce the rough feel of damaged lengths.

Arginine and Serine (positions 16 and 30)

These are amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. In a rinse-off shampoo they act as conditioning agents. You will notice that no ingredient named “keratin” or “hydrolyzed keratin” appears in the Thai list. KERATINxs is L’Oréal’s own name for a technology, not an INCI ingredient name, and the brand does not disclose which listed ingredients make it up. We will not pretend otherwise.

Salicylic Acid, Acids and Preservatives

Salicylic Acid sits at position 19, after the silicones and polymers. Alongside Acetic Acid, Fumaric Acid and Citric Acid, it helps with pH and formula stability. L’Oréal does not market this shampoo as a scalp exfoliant or anti-dandruff product, so we do not either. Sodium Benzoate and Phenoxyethanol are the preservatives that keep the product safe once opened.

Titanium Dioxide, Mica and Glycol Distearate

These give the shampoo its pearly, opaque look. They are cosmetic appearance ingredients and do not repair anything.

Fragrance and Fragrance Allergens

The formula contains Parfum plus six fragrance components that are declared individually: Limonene, Linalool, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone and Citronellol. Most people use these without any problem, but anyone with a known fragrance allergy should check this list carefully.

Is It Sulfate-Free or Silicone-Free?

No, and it is worth being clear about this. The Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate as its main cleanser and two silicones, Dimethicone and Amodimethicone. It also contains fragrance.

That is not automatically a bad thing. Sulfate cleansers rinse away sweat, pollution and oil very efficiently, which matters in a hot climate, and silicones are a large part of why damaged hair feels smooth after washing. But if you follow a sulfate-free or silicone-free routine, for example the curly girl method, this shampoo does not fit it.

Who the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo Suits

L’Oréal Paris Thailand positions this shampoo for dry, damaged hair. Based on the brand description and the ingredient list, it is a sensible choice for:

People whose lengths feel dry, rough or straw-like, especially at the ends. Anyone whose hair has been coloured, bleached, rebonded, smoothed or permed and now tangles easily. Regular users of hair dryers, straighteners or curling tongs. Long hair that shows split ends and frizz on the lower half. And people who like a rich lather and an obviously smooth, slippery feel after rinsing.

Who Should Skip It

The Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo will not suit everyone. Consider another option if you have a known allergy to any listed ingredient, including the fragrance components. If you strictly avoid sulfates or silicones, it is not for you. People with very fine hair and an oily scalp may find the silicones weigh hair down, although using it mainly on the lengths can help.

If you have a scalp condition such as persistent dandruff, psoriasis or an itchy, inflamed scalp, see a dermatologist. This is a cosmetic repair shampoo, not a treatment. For a scalp-focused product from our range, see the Neutrogena T/Gel Scalp Relief Shampoo.

How to Use the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo

L’Oréal Paris Thailand gives simple directions: apply to wet hair, massage into a lather, then rinse thoroughly. For best results the brand recommends using it with other products from the Elseve Total Repair 5 range, and advises rinsing immediately with water if it gets into the eyes.

Our practical routine: wet your hair fully with lukewarm water, press one to two pumps into your palm, and work the lather into the scalp with your fingertips, not your nails. Let the foam run down the lengths, then rinse until the water runs clear.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends concentrating shampoo on the scalp rather than the full length of hair and following with conditioner; its tips for healthy hair are a useful general guide.

Using It With Conditioner

The Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo is designed as step one. Follow with a conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends, leave it for one to three minutes, and rinse. For very dry or chemically treated hair, a weekly mask in place of the conditioner adds extra slip. A matching Total Repair 5 conditioner is what the brand recommends, but any conditioner suited to damaged hair can be used alongside it.

How Often to Wash

There is no brand rule on frequency. In Bangladesh, many people with an oily scalp wash daily or every other day during the hot months, while people with dry or curly hair often wash two to three times a week. Wash when your scalp needs it. On in-between days, a rinse with water and a little conditioner can refresh the lengths without extra cleansing.

Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo and Hair Types

Hair type	How well it fits	Notes
Dry, damaged hair	Main target	The type named by L’Oréal Paris Thailand
Colour-treated or bleached	Good	Follow with conditioner; avoid very hot water
Rebonded, keratin-smoothed or permed	Good	Ask your salon how long to wait after treatment before washing
Thick, coarse or wavy	Good	Use a little more product and massage well
Fine hair, oily scalp	Use with care	Silicones may feel heavy; focus on the scalp and rinse well
Curly-girl or silicone-free routines	Not suitable	Contains sulfate and silicones

Using It in Bangladesh: Humidity, Hard Water and Heat

Hair in Bangladesh has to cope with a demanding climate. High humidity from April to October swells the hair shaft and lifts the cuticle, which is why damaged hair frizzes so quickly outdoors. The silicones and guar polymer in the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo help smooth the surface, and a conditioner on top adds to that effect.

Many homes, particularly those on deep tube wells, have hard water with high levels of calcium and magnesium, and in many areas iron. Hard water can leave hair feeling rough and dull and can make shampoos lather less. If your water is hard, use enough Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo to get a full lather, rinse longer, and consider a final rinse with filtered or boiled-and-cooled water when possible.

Heat and sweat matter too. Summer temperatures and crowded commutes mean the scalp produces more oil and sweat, and a sulfate-based cleanser removes that build-up efficiently.

What Results to Expect From the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo, and When

Results depend on your hair, your water and the rest of your routine, so treat this as a general guide rather than a promise.

From the first wash with the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo, most people notice easier combing and smoother, softer lengths, mainly from the silicones and conditioning polymer. Over the first two to four weeks, with regular conditioner use, hair tends to look shinier and feel less rough, and ends may look neater and less frayed.

What a shampoo cannot do is permanently mend split ends or reverse heavy bleach damage. A split end that has already formed will not seal itself for good; a trim is the only reliable fix. L’Oréal’s own claims are about how hair looks and feels, and we keep ours to the same limits.

What We Will Not Claim

We will not claim that the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo contains keratin as a listed ingredient, because the Thai INCI does not show one. We will not claim it treats hair loss, dandruff or any scalp disease. We will not claim a specific percentage of any single ingredient beyond the brand’s own statement of up to 3% for KERATINxs and repairing ingredients. And we will not claim the Thai formula is identical to the UK or US Elvive version, because we cannot confirm that.

Storage and Shelf Life

Keep the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo bottle closed between uses and store it away from direct sunlight, for example not on a sunny windowsill. A steamy bathroom is fine for daily use, but avoid leaving spare bottles in a hot car or near a stove. Use the product within the period shown by the open-jar symbol on the pack after opening, and check the manufacturing or expiry information printed on the bottle.

Authentic Retail Unit

We supply the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo as an authentic, sealed retail unit in the Thailand pack, with its original Thai-language label. Because it is the Thai version, the text on the back of the bottle is mainly in Thai. You can find it in our shampoo and conditioner collection alongside other hair care.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo

Is the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo the same as Elvive Total Repair 5?

It is the same L’Oréal Paris range sold under a different name in Thailand and some other markets. Formulas are registered regionally and can differ, so the ingredient list on this page is the Thai one that matches this bottle.

Does the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo contain keratin?

The brand promotes KERATINxs technology, but no ingredient named keratin appears in the Thai INCI. KERATINxs is L’Oréal’s technology name, and the brand does not disclose which listed ingredients it refers to.

Can I use it every day?

There is no brand restriction on daily use of the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo. People with an oily scalp in hot weather often wash daily; people with dry hair may prefer two to three washes a week. Always follow with conditioner on the lengths.

Is it safe for coloured or rebonded hair?

The Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo is positioned for damaged hair, which includes chemically treated hair. It contains a sulfate cleanser, so if your colourist has asked you to use a sulfate-free shampoo, follow their advice.

Will it stop my hair from falling out?

No. L’Oréal makes no hair-fall claim for the Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo. It is designed to improve how damaged lengths look and feel. For hair loss, see a dermatologist.

Summary

The L’Oréal Paris Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo 400ml is a conventional, well-made repair shampoo from the Thai market, built on a sulfate cleanser with two silicones, a guar conditioning polymer, a ceramide-type lipid and amino acids. L’Oréal says it targets five signs of damage: healthier look, moisture, shine, smoothness and fewer split ends. It suits dry, damaged, coloured and heat-styled hair, especially in humid weather, and it is not suitable for sulfate-free or silicone-free routines. The full brand page is available on L’Oréal Paris Thailand. Pair this Elseve Total Repair 5 Shampoo with a conditioner for the best results.

About L’Oréal Paris Elvive and Elseve

Elvive, sold as Elseve in some countries, is the everyday hair care line from L’Oréal Paris. It covers different needs, such as damaged hair, dry hair, coloured hair and dehydrated hair, with shampoos, conditioners and masks.

Who Elvive Is Made For

Elvive is made for everyday home use. Choose the version that matches your main hair concern and use the matching conditioner or mask from the same line.

Elvive Routine Tips

Use a small amount of shampoo, rinse well, and follow with the matching conditioner on the lengths. Use a mask once a week for extra care.

How to Use elseve total repair 5 shampoo for the Best Lather

Wet your hair fully first. Take a small amount of elseve total repair 5 shampoo in your palms, rub them together and spread it over the scalp. Massage with your fingertips, not your nails, for about a minute.

The foam that runs down while you rinse is usually enough to clean the lengths, so you do not need to scrub the ends. Rinse until the water runs clear.

How Often Should You Wash With elseve total repair 5 shampoo?

There is no single rule. Oily scalps may need washing every day or every other day, while dry or treated hair often does better with two or three washes a week.

Watch how your scalp feels. If it feels tight or itchy, wash less often; if it feels greasy by the evening, wash a little more.

After Hair Oiling: Wash Twice

Many people in Bangladesh oil their hair before washing. Oil is hard to remove in one wash, so shampoo twice: the first wash breaks down the oil and the second actually cleans.

Use a small amount each time rather than one large amount. This removes oil more evenly and saves product.

Scalp First, Lengths Second

Shampoo is mainly for the scalp, where oil, sweat and dust build up. The lengths need gentle cleansing and then conditioning, so follow elseve total repair 5 shampoo with the matching mask or conditioner.

Why a Salon Size Makes Sense

Large salon sizes cost less per wash than small bottles, and they are ideal for families or anyone with long, thick hair. Keep the pump or cap clean and the bottle closed between uses.

What Makes a Good Professional Shampoo

A good professional shampoo cleans without leaving hair rough, and is designed to work with the matching mask or conditioner. Salon ranges are usually built around one main need, such as smoothing, strength, repair or colour care.

Shampoo and Scalp Comfort

Massage gently and avoid scratching the scalp with your nails. Rinse all the foam out, because leftover shampoo can make the scalp feel itchy.

Signs You Are Using Too Much Shampoo

If hair feels squeaky, rough or dry right after washing, or the scalp feels tight, you may be using too much or washing too often. Use a smaller amount of elseve total repair 5 shampoo and see how your hair responds.

Shampoo in Humid Weather

In humid months, sweat and dust build up faster, so the scalp may need washing more often. Follow with smoothing care on the lengths so frequent washing does not leave hair dry.

Best Products to Pair With elseve total repair 5 shampoo

For a complete routine, pair elseve total repair 5 shampoo with L’Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil Nourishing Shampoo 400ml and L’Oréal Paris Elvive Hyaluron Moisture Filling Shampoo 400ml. You can also browse our full hair care collection for more professional options.

Know Your Hair Type Before Using elseve total repair 5 shampoo

Hair that is frizzy, dry, fine, thick, coloured, chemically straightened or damaged each needs slightly different care. Look at how your hair behaves after washing: does it puff up, feel rough, tangle easily or lose colour quickly?

Matching the product to the problem is the key. Read the “Who should use” section on this page to see whether this product fits your hair.

Heat Styling Without Extra Damage

Blow-dryers, straighteners and curling tongs are a big cause of dryness and breakage. Let hair air-dry partly before blow-drying, use a medium setting, and keep tools moving.

Give your hair regular breaks from heat, and use a mask or leave-in care on the lengths to keep them smooth and easier to manage.

Monsoon Hair Care Tips

During the rainy season, humidity is at its highest and hair can frizz within minutes of stepping outside. Rain water and sweat can also leave the scalp feeling itchy or oily.

Wash your scalp regularly, dry hair properly before tying it up, and use smoothing care on the lengths. Avoid tying wet hair tightly, as it is weaker when wet.

Salon Hair Care vs Regular Shampoo

Professional ranges are made for specific hair needs, such as frizz, breakage, colour care or straightened hair, and are designed to be used together as a system. Regular supermarket shampoos are usually made for a broad, general audience.

That is why many people keep a salon range for their main routine. This product belongs to that professional category.

Gentle Habits for Healthier Hair

Detangle from the ends upwards with a wide-tooth comb, especially when hair is wet. Use soft hair ties without metal parts, and avoid pulling hair into very tight styles every day.

Sleeping on a smooth pillowcase and trimming split ends every few months also helps hair look neater and feel softer between salon visits.

Hair Care for Men and Women

Professional hair care is not only for women. Men with long hair, curly hair, coloured hair or a dry scalp can use the same products. Simply adjust the amount to your hair length.

Is elseve total repair 5 shampoo Worth It?

Professional hair care usually costs more than supermarket brands, but it is made for specific hair needs and is designed to work as a system. If the concern it targets is your main hair problem, a targeted product often gives a more noticeable difference than a general one.

Looking at cost per use also helps. A salon-size bottle or jar lasts many weeks, so the price per wash is often lower than it first seems.

How Long Until You See Results With elseve total repair 5 shampoo?

Some things, like softness and shine, can often be felt from the first use. Changes such as less frizz, less breakage or longer-lasting colour are best judged after a few weeks of regular use.

Results always depend on your hair type, its current condition, your water, your styling habits and the rest of your routine, so give the product a fair trial before deciding.

Using elseve total repair 5 shampoo on Chemically Treated Hair

Professional ranges are often used after salon services such as colour, keratin, smoothing or straightening. After any chemical treatment, ask your stylist how long to wait before the first wash and which products to use.

If your scalp is sensitive after a treatment, wait until any tenderness has settled before using new products.

Oily Scalp With Dry Ends

This is very common in hot weather. Focus shampoo on the scalp and keep masks, serums and oils on the mid-lengths and ends only. Rinse very well so no product is left at the roots.

Choosing the Right Size of elseve total repair 5 shampoo

Smaller bottles are good for trying a product or for travel. Salon sizes are better value once you know a product suits you, and they are handy for families or long hair.

If you travel, pour a little into a small clean travel bottle rather than carrying the large pack.

Hair Care Words Explained

Keratin is the main protein that hair is made of. Many professional products use keratin-inspired or protein ingredients to help care for damaged or processed hair.

Sulfate-free means the cleansing agents do not include sulfates such as sodium lauryl sulfate. Many people prefer sulfate-free cleansing after smoothing or keratin treatments.

A leave-in is any product you do not rinse out, such as a serum or oil. A rinse-off product, such as a shampoo or mask, is washed away after use.

Frizz is the fluffy, uncontrolled look hair gets when its surface is rough or when it absorbs moisture from humid air. Smoothing care aims to keep the surface flatter and more controlled.

A salon size is the large professional pack used in salons, usually 1 litre to 1.5 litres for shampoo or around 500g for masks. It costs less per use than a small retail pack.

Hair Care in Bangladesh Weather

Heat, humidity, monsoon rain, dust and sweat all affect hair in Bangladesh. Humid air makes many hair types swell and frizz, while sun, pollution and hard styling can leave lengths dry and rough.

That is why a routine built from matching products usually works better than random single items. Using this product as part of a steady routine, rather than now and then, is the easiest way to judge what it does for your hair.

Build a Salon-Style Routine With elseve total repair 5 shampoo

A simple professional routine has three steps: cleanse, treat and protect. Shampoo cleans the scalp and hair, a mask or conditioner smooths and nourishes the lengths, and a leave-in serum or oil finishes and protects.

You do not need every step every day. Most people shampoo two to four times a week, use a mask once or twice a week, and apply a leave-in only on the lengths when needed.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Very hot water can dry hair and fade colour, so rinse with lukewarm water. Rubbing wet hair hard with a towel roughs up the surface; press and squeeze instead.

Using too much product does not give better results. Start with a small amount of this product and add more only if your hair is very long or thick. Always follow the directions printed on the pack.

How to Store elseve total repair 5 shampoo in Hot Weather

Keep the bottle or jar tightly closed, away from direct sunlight and heat. A cool, dry shelf is better than a sunny window or the top of a water heater.

Do not add water to the pack, and use clean, dry hands or a spatula for jars. Good storage helps the formula stay fresh until the last use.

Patch Test and Safety Tips

Hair products are for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, and if it happens, rinse with plenty of clean water. Stop using any product that causes itching, redness or irritation.

If you have a sensitive scalp, try a small amount first and wait a day. Keep all hair care out of the reach of children.
