What Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid 10% Serum Is

Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid 10% Serum is a 30 ml alcohol-free serum built around azelaic acid at 10%, supported by niacinamide, panthenol and sodium hyaluronate. Cos De BAHA are a Korean brand with a deliberately clinical house style — plain packaging, actives named on the front, percentages stated, and formulas short enough to read in one breath.

It is aimed at three problems that usually arrive together: active breakouts, the redness around them, and the brown marks they leave behind.

What Azelaic Acid Actually Is

Azelaic acid is a dicarboxylic acid found naturally in wheat, rye and barley. It is also produced on human skin by Malassezia, a yeast that lives on almost everyone’s face.

That second fact matters. This is not a foreign chemical being introduced to your skin — it is a molecule your skin surface already encounters. It is part of why azelaic acid has one of the better tolerance records among effective actives, and why it is one of the few used routinely during pregnancy under medical guidance.

Despite the name it does not behave like AHA or BHA acids. It does not meaningfully exfoliate, it does not thin the stratum corneum, and it does not increase sun sensitivity the way glycolic acid does. Calling it an “acid” sets the wrong expectation entirely.

Why Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid Does Three Jobs at Once

Most actives do one thing. Azelaic acid does at least four, which is why Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid shows up in dermatology recommendations for conditions that look unrelated:

It inhibits tyrosinase — the enzyme that makes melanin. That is the dark-mark half.
It is antibacterial — active against Cutibacterium acnes, the bacterium involved in inflammatory acne.
It is anti-inflammatory — it reduces reactive oxygen species from neutrophils, which is the mechanism behind its effect on visible redness and rosacea.
It normalises keratinisation — it helps the pore lining shed properly, so pores clog less readily.

Put together: it calms the spot, kills some of what caused it, keeps the pore from re-clogging, and reduces the mark left behind. There is no other single cosmetic active that covers that whole sequence.

The Selectivity That Makes It Unusual

Here is the property that separates azelaic acid from most brightening ingredients, and it is worth understanding before you buy anything else for dark marks.

Azelaic acid acts preferentially on hyperactive melanocytes — the over-producing cells inside a dark patch — and has little effect on normally functioning ones. Practically, it fades the spot without lightening the skin around it.

Hydroquinone and several strong brighteners do not discriminate. Used carelessly they can leave pale halos around treated areas, which on medium and deep skin tones looks worse than the original mark. Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid does not carry that risk, which is a large part of why it suits Bangladeshi skin tones so well.

10% Here vs 15–20% on Prescription

Dermatologists prescribe azelaic acid at 15% (gel, usually for rosacea) and 20% (cream, usually for acne). This serum is 10%, which is the standard cosmetic ceiling.

Be clear-eyed about what that means. 10% is a real, working concentration — it is not a token inclusion — but it is not prescription strength, and it will act more slowly. For mild to moderate breakouts and post-acne marks it is genuinely useful. For severe cystic acne or diagnosed rosacea, it is a supporting product alongside proper medical treatment, not a replacement for it.

Key actives in the Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid 10% serum — 10% azelaic acid with niacinamide and botanical support

An Aloe Base, Not a Water Base

Read the first ingredient again: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, not Aqua. Almost every serum on the market opens with water. This one uses aloe as the carrier.

That is a more expensive way to build a formula, and it makes sense here — aloe brings its own soothing and hydrating fraction, which offsets the mild tingle azelaic acid can produce on first use. For a product aimed at inflamed, reactive skin, that is a considered choice rather than a marketing flourish.

It also means there is genuinely no filler at the top of this ingredient list. Everything above the preservative is doing something.

Niacinamide, Panthenol and the Botanicals

Niacinamide pairs unusually well with azelaic acid. It reduces the transfer of finished melanin to surface skin cells, while azelaic acid slows melanin production — two different points on the same pathway. Niacinamide also supports barrier lipids, which helps the skin tolerate the azelaic acid.

Panthenol and sodium hyaluronate handle comfort and hydration.

Then four botanical extracts sit at the end: Camellia Sinensis (green tea), a well-studied antioxidant; Momordica Charantia (bitter melon); Sambucus Nigra (elderflower); and Leontopodium Alpinum (edelweiss). Their position means low concentrations — treat them as a supporting antioxidant layer, not as reasons to buy. Naming them honestly matters more than overselling them.

The Tingle, and What Is Normal

Many people feel a mild tingle or warmth in the first week of using Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid. That is expected and usually settles within days as the skin adjusts.

What is not normal: sharp burning, persistent stinging beyond ten minutes, spreading redness, or any swelling. Stop if those appear.

Some users also see a brief increase in small spots in weeks two to four. Because azelaic acid normalises how the pore lining sheds, congestion already forming below the surface can come up sooner than it otherwise would. That settles. If breakouts are still worsening at week six, it is not purging — it is not agreeing with you.

Patch test first: a small amount behind the ear or under the jaw, and wait 24 hours. The brand asks for this explicitly.

Texture and Pilling

Azelaic acid serums have a reputation for pilling — rolling into little balls under sunscreen or makeup. It is worth knowing how to avoid it rather than discovering it on a workday morning.

Three things help. Use a small amount: one to two drops is the stated dose, and more is not better. Let it absorb fully for a minute or two before the next layer. And avoid layering it directly under a heavy silicone-rich product, which is where most pilling comes from.

Applied thinly on clean skin, Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid sits well under sunscreen.

Acne and Dark Marks in This Climate

The combination this serum targets is close to the default skin complaint in Bangladesh, and the reasons are structural rather than personal.

Heat and humidity mean more sebum and more occlusion, so breakouts are common. Skin here is mostly Fitzpatrick IV–V, which responds to any inflammation with strong pigment production. And the UV index stays high year-round, which deepens and prolongs every mark that forms.

So the local pattern is not just acne — it is acne followed by a brown mark that outlasts the spot by months. A product that treats both stages is doing more useful work here than in the markets these formulas are usually written for.

One caveat that follows directly: sunscreen is not optional alongside Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid. Fading marks while re-triggering pigment daily is running to stand still. Our sunscreen range is the other half of this routine.

Who Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid Suits

Good for acne-prone skin with post-acne marks — the exact combination it was designed for. Good for redness-prone and reactive skin. Good for anyone who wants a brightening active that will not create pale patches. Good for oily skin, since the base is light and alcohol-free.

Also worth knowing: azelaic acid is one of the few actives commonly considered compatible with pregnancy and breastfeeding. That said, always confirm with your own doctor before using anything while pregnant — we are a shop, not a clinic.

Less suitable if your skin is currently very dry or barrier-compromised — repair the barrier first. Not a treatment for severe cystic acne or diagnosed rosacea on its own; see a dermatologist for those.

How to Use Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid 10% Serum

Cleanse and tone.
Apply 1–2 drops, morning and night. Do not use more.
Do not rinse or wipe it off after applying — the brand states this directly.
Wait a minute or two, then apply moisturiser.
Morning: finish with sunscreen.
Start once daily at night for the first week if your skin is reactive, then build to twice.

Layering Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid With Other Actives

With niacinamide: excellent pairing, and already partly built into this formula.

With vitamin C: fine. Vitamin C in the morning, Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid at night is the simplest split.

With retinoids: both are well tolerated together by most people, and dermatologists often combine them. If your skin is sensitive, alternate nights rather than stacking.

With AHA or BHA: keep them on separate nights. Azelaic acid is not itself an exfoliant, but stacking it onto freshly exfoliated skin raises irritation — and irritation makes pigmentation worse, which defeats the purpose.

With benzoyl peroxide: use at different times of day. Both are effective; together they can be drying.

Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid vs the Alternatives for Dark Marks

Four actives get recommended for post-acne marks. They are not interchangeable, and the differences decide which one belongs in your routine.

Active	Strength	Main limitation
Azelaic acid	Treats acne, redness and marks together; selective on over-active pigment cells	Slow at 10%; can pill
Niacinamide	Very well tolerated; supports barrier	Gentle — works on transfer, not production
Alpha arbutin	Direct tyrosinase inhibition	Does nothing for acne or redness
Vitamin C	Antioxidant plus brightening	Unstable; can irritate at low pH

The case for Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid is breadth. If your only issue is pigmentation with clear skin, a dedicated brightener is the sharper tool. If you have breakouts and the marks they leave, this one product covers both stages, which usually beats running two.

Building a Routine Around Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid

A simple structure that works for most people starting this serum.

Morning: gentle cleanser, Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid, moisturiser, sunscreen. That is the whole thing. Resist adding more.

Night: oil cleanser if you wore sunscreen or makeup, then a gentle face wash, then Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid, then moisturiser.

Week one: night only, so you learn how your skin reacts before committing to twice daily.

What to leave out at first: exfoliating acids, scrubs, clay masks and retinol. Add one back at a time, two weeks apart, once the serum is settled. Most bad outcomes with actives come from adding three things at once and having no idea which caused the problem.

Is Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid Worth It?

A 30 ml bottle at one to two drops twice daily lasts roughly two to three months. Against that, consider what it replaces: a spot treatment, a redness product and a brightening serum are three purchases doing separately what this does in one step.

Where it is not worth it: if you have no active breakouts and no redness, you are paying for two-thirds of a formula you will not use. A dedicated brightening serum would serve you better and cost less.

What to Expect from Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid

Timeframe	What you should notice
Week 1	Possible mild tingle on application; skin otherwise comfortable
Week 2–4	Redness around active spots calms; possible brief purge as congestion surfaces
Week 6–8	Fewer new breakouts; existing marks begin to soften at the edges
Week 12+	Visible fading of post-acne marks; more even overall tone

Two honest caveats. At 10% this works more slowly than a prescription strength, so twelve weeks is a fair first assessment rather than four. And Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid will not fix acne caused by hormones or diet on its own — it treats what is on the skin, not what is driving it.

Storing Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid

Keep the bottle closed, upright and out of direct sunlight. Azelaic acid formulas are reasonably stable, but heat shortens the life of any serum, and a bathroom windowsill in a Dhaka summer is the worst place you could keep it.

Follow the printed expiry and the period-after-opening symbol on the carton. Replace it if the liquid separates, changes colour sharply or develops a new smell.

Common Questions

Is Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid an exfoliant like glycolic acid?

No. Despite the name it does not meaningfully exfoliate and does not increase sun sensitivity the way AHAs do.

Will it lighten my natural skin tone?

No. It acts mainly on over-producing pigment cells inside dark patches, so it fades marks without bleaching the surrounding skin.

Can I use Cos De BAHA Azelaic Acid while pregnant?

Azelaic acid is widely regarded as one of the safer actives in pregnancy, but confirm with your own doctor first.

Does it treat rosacea?

Azelaic acid is used medically for rosacea at 15%. At 10% this can help with visible redness, but diagnosed rosacea needs a dermatologist.

Why does it pill under my sunscreen?

Usually too much product or not enough absorption time. Use one to two drops and wait two minutes.

Morning or night?

Both, per the brand. Start at night only if your skin is reactive.
