What CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser actually is

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is a clear gel that foams, built for normal to oily skin, sold here in the 355 ml pump — the value size. The formula pairs a mild surfactant system with three skin-identical ceramides, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, so it cleanses without the tight, squeaky, stripped feeling that cheap foaming washes leave behind.

That combination is the whole pitch for CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. Most gel cleansers that genuinely remove oil also remove barrier lipids. CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser puts some back on the way out. Whether it fully compensates is debatable, but the intent is sound and the formula supports it.

CeraVe also sells a Hydrating Cleanser for dry skin and an Air Foam Cleanser for combination and sensitive skin. Buying the wrong one is the most common mistake in this range, and there is a section further down to stop you making it.

It contains parabens — and we are not going to skip past that

Methylparaben sits fourteenth and Propylparaben nineteenth. CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is one of the few products left in the CeraVe line-up that still uses them, and in a market where “paraben-free” is printed on half the shelf, you deserve to know before you order rather than after.

The fair context: parabens are among the most-studied preservatives in cosmetics. Methylparaben and propylparaben are both permitted in the EU, the US, Japan and Korea, at limits well above the levels used in a rinse-off cleanser. The concern that made them unpopular came from studies at doses far beyond cosmetic use, and no regulator has banned these two. A cleanser is also on your skin for thirty seconds before it goes down the drain.

So this is not a warning. It is a fact you should have. If you avoid parabens on principle — and plenty of people do, which is their right — then CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is not your cleanser, and we would rather tell you now than have you read the bottle at home.

The surfactant system is the good part

Look at what is not in CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser: no Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, no Sodium Laureth Sulfate, no soap. The cleansing comes from Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate and Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate — three mild surfactants that clean well without the harsh degreasing of a sulfate system.

One honest footnote: cocamidopropyl derivatives are a recognised contact allergen for a small minority of people, usually those who already react to cocamidopropyl betaine in shampoos. If that is you, patch test. For everyone else this is about as gentle as a genuinely foaming cleanser gets.

Niacinamide, ceramides and hyaluronic acid

In CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser, niacinamide sits sixth, which is a meaningful position for an active in a rinse-off product — though no percentage is published, and anyone quoting you one is guessing. The three ceramides (NP, AP, EOP) and Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid sit lower, as you would expect, alongside cholesterol and phytosphingosine.

Be realistic about what actives do in a cleanser. Thirty seconds of contact then rinsed away is not the same as a leave-on serum. They soften the strip rather than treating anything. That is still worth having, and it is why CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser does not leave the tight feeling most foaming washes do.

The claims, and what is behind them

“12-hour oil control.” A brand claim from CeraVe’s own site. No study is published against it that we could find, and no methodology is given. Treat it as a positioning statement rather than a measured result.
“97% agree skin felt healthy after use.” This is a consumer-perception figure — people were asked how their skin felt, and 97% agreed. It is not a clinical measurement of skin health. Useful, but it measures opinion.
“Fragrance-free.” This one is verifiable straight from the list above. No parfum, no fragrance, no masking agent. Real.
“Non-comedogenic” and “allergy-tested.” Both standard cosmetic testing claims, both printed on the pack.
“No harsh microbeads.” True, and slightly beside the point in 2026 — microbeads are banned in most markets anyway.

How CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser behaves in Bangladesh

Unlike most of the CeraVe range, CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is genuinely well matched to the climate here.

Dhaka humidity plus heat means most people produce more sebum than the same skin would in a dry country. A gel that foams and rinses clean is exactly right for that, where a cream cleanser would feel like it left a film. If you have oily or combination skin, CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser will probably feel better to you in July than any cream cleanser on this site.

Two local caveats worth knowing:

Hard water. Much of Dhaka’s supply is hard, and hard water reduces how well surfactants rinse and can leave a mineral residue that feels like tightness. If your skin feels tight after cleansing and you have blamed the product, the water may be the culprit. A final rinse with filtered or boiled-and-cooled water is a cheap test.
Twice a day is enough. In heat there is a temptation to wash four or five times. Over-cleansing is the fastest way to trigger the rebound oiliness people then buy more cleanser to fix. Morning and night, and rinse with plain water in between if you need to.

For dry or dehydrated skin, or during a cool, dry January, this is the wrong cleanser and the Hydrating Cleanser is the right one.

How to use it

The direction on CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is three steps: wet skin with lukewarm water, massage the cleanser in gentle circular motions as it foams, rinse well and pat dry.

What actually matters:

Lukewarm, not hot. Hot water strips more than any cleanser in this price range will.
One to two pumps for a face. The 355 ml bottle encourages overuse simply because it is large.
Thirty to sixty seconds of contact. Longer does not clean better; it just dries you out.
Second cleanse only. If you wear sunscreen or makeup, use an oil or micellar water first. CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is a water-based gel and water does not dissolve sunscreen filters well.
Pat, do not rub. And moisturise while the skin is still slightly damp.

Who should skip it

Not for you if: your skin is dry, dehydrated or tight — buy the Hydrating Cleanser; you avoid parabens; you react to cocamidopropyl compounds; you want a cleanser that also treats acne, in which case a salicylic acid cleanser does more; or you were hoping for something that removes waterproof makeup on its own, which no water-based gel does well.

Good for you if: your skin is oily or combination; you want a large, honest, fragrance-free daily cleanser that will last months; you use actives and want a cleansing step that will not add to the irritation; or you have simply been using a soap bar or a harsh face wash and want to stop.

Will CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser dry out my skin?

If your skin is oily, almost certainly not — that is what it is designed for. If your skin is normal-to-dry, it may, and the Hydrating Cleanser is the better buy. If it dries you out in winter but suits you in summer, that is completely normal and worth switching seasonally.

Does it remove sunscreen?

Partly, not reliably. Modern sunscreen filters are oil-soluble, and CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is water-based. Use a cleansing oil, balm or micellar water first, then this as your second cleanse.

Is it good for acne?

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is a good supporting cleanser for acne-prone skin — mild, non-comedogenic and fragrance-free — but it treats nothing. Acne needs an active. This is what you use so the active does not wreck your barrier.

How long does 355 ml last?

At two pumps twice a day, a 355 ml bottle of CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser lasts four to six months for one person. It is the best value size CeraVe sells and the main reason to buy it over the smaller bottles.

Can I use it on my body?

You can, but it is expensive per millilitre for body use and a dedicated body wash will do the job for less.

Is it safe in pregnancy?

Nothing in CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is a recognised pregnancy concern — no retinoids, no salicylic acid, no essential oils. As always, check with your doctor rather than a shop.

Why is it cheaper abroad?

Because CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is an imported product carrying freight, duty and a small retailer margin. We would rather be straight about that than pretend the price is anything other than what importing costs.

Why the 355 ml is the size worth buying

CeraVe sells this cleanser in 87 ml, 236 ml, 237 ml, 355 ml and 473 ml depending on market. The 355 ml pump is the sweet spot for one simple reason: cost per millilitre drops sharply between the small bottles and this one, and 355 ml is still a quantity you will finish inside six months rather than watching it sit half-used for two years.

The pump matters more than people expect. A pump dispenses a consistent dose, keeps your fingers out of the product, and does not tip over in a wet bathroom the way a flip-cap does. On a bottle this size you will use it roughly seven hundred times, so the mechanism is not a trivial detail.
