What the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser is

The Arencia Black Tea Cleanser is a 120 g solid cleanser the colour of wet charcoal, with the texture of soft dough. It does not pour and it barely foams. You take a pea-sized piece, warm it between wet palms until it slackens, and work it over damp skin.

It is the charcoal-and-clay member of Arencia’s rice mochi range. Charcoal powder sits sixth in the formula and kaolin tenth, which makes this the most absorbent of the four cleansers we stock and the one aimed squarely at oily, congested skin.

It is also the one where the marketing and the legal ingredient list diverge the most, and we are going to spend a good part of this page on that, because we would rather you buy it for what it is.

There is no rice in the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser

The product is sold internationally as the Black Tea Rice Mochi Cleanser, and Arencia’s own key-ingredient graphic names “Rice Extract” as one of three hero ingredients alongside black tea and charcoal.

Korea requires cosmetics to publish a complete ingredient list by law. We pulled Arencia’s Korean listing for this product. There is no rice in it. No Oryza sativa, no rice bran, no rice powder, no rice water — nothing. The Korean product name is Black Tea and Yuzu Cleanser, with no rice in the name at all.

What “rice mochi” describes is the texture. In Korean the format is called tteok-sop, rice-cake soap, after the kneading method used to make it. That is a fair name for a manufacturing process. Printing “Rice Extract” on an ingredient graphic for a formula containing no rice is a different thing, and we think you should know before you buy the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser rather than after.

The black tea is at 10 ppm — and the yuzu is at 300

Korean law also required Arencia to publish the concentrations, and they are printed at the end of the list: black tea extract at 10 ppm, yuzu extract at 300 ppm.

Ten parts per million is 0.001 percent. Across a whole 120 g jar of the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser that is about 1.2 milligrams of black tea extract. The yuzu, which does not appear in the international product name at all, is present at thirty times the concentration of the ingredient the product is named after.

We will give Arencia this much: they published both numbers where the law made them, and most brands would rather you never saw them. But the ingredient on the front of the jar is the one at 0.001 percent, and no amount of antioxidant research about tea polyphenols changes what 1.2 milligrams can do across four months of washing.

Twenty-one ingredients. Compare that with the fifty-two in the Fresh Green at the same shelf price. There is no filler here and a short list can be the right choice for reactive skin, but the four Arencia cleansers are not equivalent products, and their prices do not reflect that.

So what actually does the work?

Charcoal powder, sixth

This is the ingredient doing the visible job in the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser. Charcoal is a physical adsorbent — oil and grime stick to its surface and rinse away. Sixth place means a real quantity, and it is why the dough is black.

Kaolin, tenth

A soft white clay that absorbs sebum and gives the dough its body. It is the gentlest of the cosmetic clays, considerably milder than bentonite. Charcoal plus kaolin is a genuinely oil-absorbing pair, and it is the honest reason to buy this cleanser.

The three coconut surfactants

Sodium cocoyl isethionate is third, sodium cocoyl glycinate fifth, sodium methyl cocoyl taurate eighth. All coconut-derived, all mild. There is no SLS or SLES in the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser, which is why it does not leave the tight, squeaky feeling a sulfate wash does.

Sweet almond seed cake, fourth

The scrub particle — the pressed residue left after almond oil is expressed. Fourth place is high, and it means the exfoliation here is real rather than decorative.

Glycerin, first

Ahead of water, which is unusual. Glycerin is why the product is dough rather than cream, and it is what actually keeps skin from feeling stripped afterwards.

Lemon peel oil and limonene — the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser scent is citrus, not parfum

Unlike the Calendula and Blue Hyssop versions, the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser carries no generic “fragrance” or “parfum” entry. It is scented with lemon peel oil at fourteen and yuzu extract at twenty, with limonene declared separately at seventeen.

Limonene is one of the twenty-six fragrance allergens the EU requires to be named on the label. Seeing it declared is a good sign — it means you can identify it — but it is still the ingredient most likely to cause a reaction in this formula. If citrus oils have irritated you before, this is the cleanser in the range to avoid.

Expressed lemon peel oil also raises the photosensitivity question. That concern is well documented for leave-on products; in a rinse-off cleanser used at night the practical risk is low. Arencia does not state whether they use a furocoumarin-reduced grade, so we cannot tell you either way. If you use the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser in the morning, wear sunscreen — which you should be doing regardless.

Almond is a tree nut — read this first

Sweet almond seed cake is the fourth ingredient of twenty-one, well above the one percent line.

Anyone with a diagnosed tree nut allergy should not buy the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser. Almond is present in quantity, the product goes on your face, and rinsing does not make a protein disappear. Every cleanser in this Arencia range contains it, so switching to a sibling does not solve the problem.

What Arencia says about the Black Tea Cleanser, and what they footnote

Three claims from the brand’s own marketing are worth putting next to the list.

Over thirty plant-derived ingredients

Arencia’s product page says the cleanser is made “with over 30 plant-derived ingredients.” The complete legal ingredient list is twenty-one items in total, of which roughly six are plant extracts, oils or powders. Twenty-one is the ceiling; thirty is not possible.

Fermented black tea

The Korean ingredient list says black tea extract. It does not indicate fermentation, and INCI naming cannot distinguish it. We are not saying the claim is false — only that nothing in the published list supports it, at 10 ppm either way.

The brand’s own footnote

Under the key-ingredient graphic Arencia prints a line in small grey type: the benefits shown are based on the known properties of the ingredients. That is the brand telling you the claims come from the literature about charcoal and tea in general, not from testing this product. We respect that they printed it. We are just printing it larger.

Arencia shows a before-and-after consumer image with the footnote that results vary by individual skin type and condition. No study, participant count or method is published.

About that Arencia Black Tea Cleanser before-and-after

There is no participant count, no duration, no measurement method, no lighting standard and no independent lab. A pore close-up can be changed dramatically by camera angle and lighting alone. We are showing you the image because it is part of what Arencia publishes about the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser, and we are telling you plainly that it is not evidence.

Arencia Black Tea Cleanser shelf life and how long an opened jar lasts

Arencia’s Korean listing gives figures we could not confirm for the other cleansers in the range: three years from manufacture, and six months after opening. Manufactured in Korea.

Six months matters here. A 120 g jar used three or four times a week lasts roughly seven to eight months, which means a jar of the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser can outlive its opened shelf life if you use it lightly. Use it at the frequency below and you will finish it inside the window. Keep water out of the jar, because a wet scoop shortens that six months.

It is a scrub, a clay and a charcoal wash — treat it accordingly

Three things in this formula strip oil: almond meal mechanically, kaolin and charcoal by absorption. Used daily on skin that is dry or already compromised, the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser will take you past clean and into tight.

Start at three to four nights a week and let your skin set the pace. If you use a retinoid, an acid toner or benzoyl peroxide, keep it to twice a week and never on the same night as a fresh acid. Do not use it on inflamed, active acne — scrubbing a pustule spreads it and lengthens the mark it leaves.

How to use the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser

Wet face and hands with lukewarm water. Cold water will not soften the dough.
Scoop a pea-sized piece, about one gram.
Warm it between your palms for ten to fifteen seconds until it loosens into a thin cream. Expect a little foam, not a lot.
Massage over damp skin in small circles for around thirty seconds. Do not press — the almond meal needs no help.
Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.
As a weekly mask, apply a thicker layer to damp skin, leave one to two minutes, then rinse. Do not let it dry and crack on the skin.

Arencia suggests one to two minutes for the mask, shorter than the five to ten they recommend for the Blue Hyssop. With charcoal and clay together that shorter time is the sensible instruction, and we would not extend it.

How the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser suits this climate

This is the product in the range best matched to a Dhaka summer. Heat raises sebum output, sweat and dust settle into it, and a charcoal-and-clay wash at the end of the day removes more than a gel cleanser will. Between April and October the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser earns its place.

Two local cautions. A dough cleanser softens in heat, so a jar left in a hot room will scoop looser and you will use more than you need. And air conditioning dries skin from the inside of the day while humidity strips it outside — the same person may want this four times a week in July and twice in January.

Who the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser suits

Good fit: oily and combination skin, blackheads and congestion around the nose and chin, visible shine by midday, and anyone who wants a face wash and a weekly clay mask from one jar.

Poor fit: dry or dehydrated skin, active inflamed acne, nightly retinoid users, tree nut allergy, and anyone who has reacted to citrus oils or limonene. Arencia’s Korean listing says all skin types; their US page says oily, combination or congested. We agree with the US page.

The Arencia Black Tea Cleanser against its three siblings

All four are 120 g, all four share the same coconut surfactants and the same almond scrub, and all four sit within a hundred taka of each other. What separates them is ingredient count, the second exfoliant, and what does the scenting.

Fresh Green Rice Mochi Cleanser — fifty-two ingredients, the most complex formula of the four and the best value on ingredients alone.
Calendula Rice Mochi Cleanser — twenty-five ingredients, no clay, no charcoal, fragrance low at eighteenth. The gentlest.
Fresh Blue Hyssop Rice Mochi Cleanser — twenty-one ingredients, kaolin but no charcoal, fragrance high at tenth.
Black Tea Rice Mochi Cleanser — twenty-one ingredients, charcoal plus kaolin, citrus-oil scent with limonene declared. The strongest oil control of the four.

If your skin is oily and you want the most cleansing power, the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser is the pick. If it is dry or reactive, the Calendula is the safer buy for the same money.

What 120 g of the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser works out to per wash

A pea-sized scoop is roughly one gram, so a 120 g jar gives around 120 washes — about seven months at three to four nights a week, or four months at daily use. At the shelf price that is a little under fifteen taka a wash.

Against a drugstore foaming cleanser that is expensive. Against a cleanser plus a separate charcoal mask plus a scrub, it is one jar doing three jobs. Remember the six-month opened shelf life when you decide which of those comparisons applies to you.

Questions we get asked

Is the black tea in the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser really doing anything?

At 10 ppm, nothing measurable. Arencia printed the figure because Korean law required it. Buy this cleanser for the charcoal and the kaolin, which are sixth and tenth in the list.

Why does it say rice if there is no rice?

Because “rice mochi” describes the tteok-sop kneading method the dough is made by, not an ingredient. The Korean name drops rice entirely and calls it Black Tea and Yuzu. The English name kept it.

Is the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser good for blackheads?

It is the best of the four for congestion, because it is the only one with charcoal. It is a cleanser, not a treatment — it will not clear blackheads a salicylic product would, and no wash-off product stays on skin long enough to do that work.

Will it remove sunscreen?

It handles a light chemical sunscreen alone. For heavy mineral SPF, waterproof formulas or full makeup, use an oil or balm first and this second.

Is the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser vegan?

Nothing in the twenty-one-ingredient list is animal-derived. Arencia carries no vegan certification we can verify, so we state the ingredient fact and stop.

Is it safe in pregnancy?

Nothing in the list is commonly restricted in pregnancy. That is an ingredient observation, not medical advice — ask your doctor about anything you put on your skin while pregnant.

Does the Arencia Black Tea Cleanser stain?

It is charcoal-black and it rinses clean off skin, but treat a white towel the way you would with any charcoal product and use a dark one.
