What This Cleanser Is

Beauty of Joseon works from hanbang, traditional Korean herbal medicine, and green plum — prunus mume — is a long-standing ingredient in that tradition. Here it appears as plum fruit water, sitting second in the ingredient list, directly after water itself.

The product is a daily gel cleanser for the second step of a double cleanse, or as a standalone morning wash. It produces a soft, low foam rather than a dense lather, which is deliberate: aggressive foam usually means aggressive surfactants.

It comes in a 100 ml tube. Beauty of Joseon also make a 200 ml; we stock the 100 ml.

The Surfactants, and Why They Matter Most

In a cleanser, the cleansing agents are the whole product. The botanical extracts get the marketing; the surfactants decide whether your skin feels comfortable or tight afterwards.

Here is what is doing the work:

Position	Ingredient	What it is
3rd	Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine	Mild amphoteric surfactant, coconut-derived, low irritation profile
4th	Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate	Very gentle anionic surfactant, the one used in syndet cleansing bars
5th	Glycerin	Humectant that offsets any drying effect

What matters just as much is what is not in this list. There are no sulfates — no sodium lauryl sulfate, no sodium laureth sulfate — and there is no potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide, which is how traditional high-pH Korean foam cleansers are made.

That is the honest reason Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser does not leave skin tight, and it is a more useful thing to know than any amount of copy about plum extract.

Plum Water and Mung Bean

Beauty of Joseon name two key ingredients, and both are genuinely present at meaningful positions.

Prunus Mume Fruit Water (2nd) — plum water, which the brand describes as vitamin-rich, containing natural fruit acids that help soften dead surface cells. Being precise: this is a mild softening effect, not exfoliation in the AHA sense.
Phaseolus Radiatus Seed Extract — mung bean, containing natural saponins that add a small amount of cleansing action alongside moisture.

Further down sit green tea, houttuynia cordata, lotus flower, rice and blueberry extracts. All are below the 1% line, where ingredient order stops carrying information. They are supporting players, not the reason to buy.

A Note on pH and Stripping

Healthy skin sits at roughly pH 4.7 to 5.75 — slightly acidic. That acidity is part of how the barrier defends itself.

Traditional foaming cleansers made by saponification run at pH 9 to 10. They clean effectively but push skin well outside its comfortable range, and repeated daily use is a common cause of tightness, flaking and reactive oiliness.

This formula is built on pre-made mild surfactants rather than saponification, and it contains citric acid and sodium citrate, which are standard pH adjusters. Beauty of Joseon do not publish an exact pH figure, so we will not quote one. What we can say from the ingredient list is that this is not a high-pH saponified cleanser.

What the Clinical Testing Covered

Beauty of Joseon state Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser was clinically tested to be suitable for sensitive skin, based on a four-week study of 51 subjects.

Read that carefully, because it is narrower than it first appears. The claim is about suitability and tolerance — that sensitive skin handled it without problems over four weeks. It is not a claim about brightening, pore reduction or any other outcome.

We think that is a reasonable and well-scoped claim for a cleanser, and we would rather show you what was actually tested than let a vague reference to clinical results do work it has not earned.

Who It Suits

A good match for

Anyone whose current face wash leaves skin tight or squeaky
Sensitive and easily reddened skin
Combination skin needing a proper clean without stripping
The second step of a double cleanse
Daily morning use

Consider something else if

You want a cleanser that treats acne — this contains no BHA or benzoyl peroxide
You love a rich, squeaky lather; this deliberately does not do that
You need to remove heavy makeup or waterproof sunscreen in one step — use an oil cleanser first

How to Use Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser

The brand’s directions:

Wet hands and gently massage Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser onto your face.
Rinse with lukewarm water.
For a deeper clean, use after an oil cleanser or cleansing balm.

Two additions from practice. Lukewarm genuinely means lukewarm — hot water strips lipids regardless of how gentle your cleanser is. And thirty to sixty seconds of massage is plenty; longer does not clean better, it just increases contact time with surfactants.

Double Cleansing, Explained Properly

Double cleansing is widely misunderstood as “wash twice”. It is not. It is using two different chemistries for two different kinds of soil.

Step	Product	Removes
First	Oil cleanser or balm	Sunscreen, makeup, sebum — oil-soluble
Second	This gel cleanser	Sweat, dust, leftover residue — water-soluble

Evening only. In the morning your skin has nothing on it but overnight product, so a single gentle wash is enough. Double cleansing twice a day is a common route to an irritated barrier.

Texture and Feel

A clear-to-translucent gel that emulsifies into a soft, loose foam. It rinses cleanly without a film and leaves skin feeling comfortable rather than tight.

If you are used to a strong sulfate lather, the first few uses may feel like it is not “working”. That sensation is unlearnable within a week or so — the squeak you have been trained to associate with clean is actually the feeling of a stripped barrier.

Four Cleansing Mistakes Worth Fixing

Hot water. It dissolves the lipids holding your barrier together. Lukewarm, always.
Cleansing for too long. Under a minute is right. This is not a treatment step.
Rough towels. Pat dry. Rubbing does more surface damage than most people realise.
Waiting to moisturise. Apply your next step within about a minute, while skin is still slightly damp.

How It Compares to Other Cleansers

Cleanser	Character	Best for
BoJ Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser	Low-foam gel, sulfate-free	Daily use, sensitive and combination skin
COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser	Gel with a mild BHA	Congestion-prone skin wanting light exfoliation
Oil cleanser or balm	Oil-based, rinses off	First step at night, removing sunscreen and makeup

How to Read a Cleanser Label

Cleansers are the easiest category to overpay in, because the ingredient that decides quality is rarely the one on the front of the tube. A short guide that will serve you across every brand.

If you see	What it means
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate	Strong detergent. Effective, frequently drying on facial skin.
Potassium Hydroxide or Sodium Hydroxide high in the list	A saponified soap cleanser, typically pH 9-10. Rich lather, often tight skin.
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate	Gentle syndet surfactant. Good sign for daily use.
Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine or Betaine	Mild amphoteric surfactants, usually paired with something gentler still.
Glycerin near the top	Humectant offsetting the drying effect of cleansing.

Apply that table to whatever you are currently using. If a hydroxide sits in the first five ingredients and your skin feels tight afterwards, you have found your answer.

Cleansing in Bangladesh Water

Water hardness varies considerably across Bangladesh, and much of Dhaka’s supply carries a meaningful mineral load. That matters more than most skincare advice acknowledges.

Hard water reacts with traditional soap-based cleansers to leave an insoluble residue on skin — the same scum that films a bathtub. That residue can feel like tightness and can contribute to dullness and congestion.

Syndet-based cleansers like this one behave far better in hard water, because they do not form the same precipitates. This formula also contains disodium EDTA, a chelating agent whose specific job is binding metal ions so the surfactants keep working properly.

That is a small, unglamorous ingredient at position thirteen doing something genuinely useful for local conditions.

Where It Fits in a Routine

Step	Morning	Evening
1	Green Plum Cleanser	Oil cleanser or balm
2	Toner	Green Plum Cleanser
3	Serum	Toner
4	Moisturiser	Treatment serum
5	Sunscreen	Moisturiser

A cleanser is the foundation of a routine in the most literal sense: everything applied afterwards lands on whatever state it leaves your skin in. A stripping cleanser undermines the serum you paid three times as much for.

Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser lathered in hands — Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser lathering into a soft, loose foam

What to Expect in the First Fortnight

First wash — noticeably less foam than you may be used to, and no squeak afterwards. Both are intentional.
Days two to four — if you are switching from a stripping cleanser, skin may feel slightly oilier. That is usually rebound sebum settling down, not Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser failing.
Week one — tightness after washing should be gone entirely.
Week two onward — less reactivity, and other products absorbing more comfortably.

A cleanser will not transform your skin. What a good one does is stop quietly undoing the rest of your routine, and that is worth more than it sounds.

Storage and Shelf Life

Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight. A tube is more hygienic than a jar, so there is little to worry about beyond keeping the cap closed and the nozzle clean.

Check the period-after-opening symbol on the carton — the small open-jar icon with a figure such as 12M — and go by your unit rather than a number quoted online.

Common Questions

Will it remove makeup?

Light makeup, yes. Foundation, waterproof sunscreen or long-wear products need an oil cleanser or balm first.

Is it good for acne?

It is a good cleanser for acne-prone skin because it does not strip and provoke more oil. It is not a treatment — it contains no active acne ingredients.

Can I use it twice a day?

Yes. Once in the morning, once at night after an oil cleanser if you wear sunscreen or makeup.

Does it contain sulfates?

No. The surfactants are cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine and sodium cocoyl isethionate, both mild and coconut-derived.

Is it safe for sensitive skin?

Beauty of Joseon’s four-week study on 51 subjects supports suitability for sensitive skin. Individual sensitivities still vary — patch test if you react easily.

Formulations are updated from time to time. The list on your carton is the authoritative one — always read it if you have allergies or sensitivities. Full product information is published on the official Beauty of Joseon product page.

Why Position Beats Percentage On Most Labels

Very few brands publish concentrations. Almost all publish an ordered ingredient list, because the law requires it. That is why every page in this shop counts positions instead of quoting a number nobody can verify.

The rule is simple. Everything above 1% must appear in descending order of quantity. Below 1% the brand may order the remainder however it likes. So the top third of a list is real information, the middle is soft, and the tail is close to decoration. Read Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser that way and the surfactants at the top matter far more than the fruit extract in the name.

What A Cleanser Can And Cannot Do

A cleanser is on your face for perhaps forty seconds and then it is gone. That single fact settles most arguments about cleansers.

It can remove oil, sweat, sunscreen and pollution. It can do that gently or harshly. What it cannot do is treat pigmentation, deliver meaningful actives, or shrink pores, because nothing gets enough contact time in a wash-off product. When you judge Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser, judge it on how your skin feels five minutes after rinsing, not on the ingredient list’s marketing highlights.

The Squeaky-Clean Trap

Many people were taught that a cleanser should leave skin feeling tight and squeaky. That feeling is stripped skin, not clean skin.

A well-formulated cleanser leaves the face feeling comfortable, neither greasy nor tight. If Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser leaves your skin feeling tight, you are either using too much, massaging too long, or washing with water that is too hot. All three are easy to fix.

How Often To Wash Your Face

Twice a day for most people: once in the morning, once at night. Oily skin is not an argument for three or four washes; over-washing usually increases oil rather than reducing it.

If your skin is dry or reactive, water alone in the morning and Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser at night is a legitimate routine. Nothing about skincare requires two full cleanses a day.

Water Temperature Matters More Than People Think

Lukewarm. Hot water strips the skin’s own lipids and leaves the face flushed and tight, and it does this regardless of how gentle your cleanser is. Cold water does not close pores, because pores do not have muscles.

Patch Testing, And Why It Is Worth Two Days

Even a wash-off product is worth patch testing if your skin reacts easily. Wash a small area on the inner forearm for two consecutive evenings. Redness or itching means stop.

What Six Weeks Of Daily Use Looks Like

Week one, the useful signal is comfort. Skin should not feel tight after rinsing.

By week four, if the rest of your routine is stable, congestion often looks better simply because sunscreen and makeup are being removed properly each night. That is the main thing a good cleanser contributes, and it is worth more than any active it claims to carry.

By week six you will know whether Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser suits your skin and your water. That is the real test.

A Short Summary Of Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser

Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser is a 100 ml gel cleanser. Its strengths are a gentle surfactant system and a comfortable after-feel. Its limit is the limit of every cleanser: forty seconds of contact time treats nothing.

Used twice daily, or once at night on reactive skin, Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser does the job a cleanser is supposed to do and stays out of the way of the products that follow it.

Final Word On Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser

If you take one thing from this page, take the surfactant positions rather than the fruit in the name. Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser is judged on how your face feels five minutes after rinsing, and on whether it removes the day without removing your barrier with it.

We stock Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser because it passes that test, and we have told you plainly where it does not go further. A cleanser that stays out of the way is doing its job.
