The Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask is a 100 g clay mask in a blue squeeze tube. You spread it on dry skin, leave it three to five minutes until it dries, and rinse. It is aimed at blackheads, visible pores and oily skin.

Every listing for the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask leads with “AHA + BHA + PHA”. Medicube gives each acid its own line on the key-ingredient panel with a benefit written beside it.

In the actual formula, gluconolactone sits at position thirty-eight, salicylic acid at thirty-nine and glycolic acid at fortieth of fifty. All three are below the one percent line, and they are grouped together in a run near the bottom that reads exactly like a late addition to a clay base.

We are not saying they do nothing. In a mask that sits on the skin for five minutes, a small amount of salicylic acid has some effect on a clogged pore. But if you are buying the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask because it is an acid treatment, it is not one. It is a clay mask with a little acid in it, and the clay is the reason it works.

The Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask five clays claim, on the other hand, is true

Credit where it is due. Medicube claims five types of clay and the ingredient list contains exactly five: kaolin second, bentonite third, Canadian colloidal clay thirty-seventh, montmorillonite forty-second and illite forty-third.

The two that matter are the two at the top. Kaolin at second and bentonite at third — directly after water — means this is a genuinely clay-heavy formula. Bentonite is the aggressive one, swelling and pulling oil hard; kaolin is the milder partner that stops it being too much. That pairing at positions two and three is the entire product.

The other three clays are at the bottom and are there to make the number five. But unlike most ingredient-count claims we check, this one is honest at the top of the list where it counts.

This is the part of the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask we would want you to read before buying.

Bergamot fruit oil is the eighth ingredient. Lemon peel oil is ninth. Orange peel oil is tenth. Limonene, one of the twenty-six fragrance allergens the EU requires to be declared, appears separately at forty-eight.

Three citrus essential oils that high in a fifty-ingredient list is a meaningful quantity, and bergamot is the one to know about. Expressed bergamot oil contains furocoumarins, which are phototoxic — they react with UV light on skin. Medicube does not state whether they use a furocoumarin-reduced grade, and we cannot tell you either way.

In practical terms this is a wash-off mask used at night, which puts the real risk low. But if you have reacted to citrus oils before, or you use this in the morning, this is the formula in our range that most warrants a patch test first.

How to tell a real clay mask from a coloured cream

Clay masks are one of the easiest categories to fake, because a beige or blue cream looks identical to the buyer. Two checks settle it in about ten seconds, and they work on any product, not just this one.

Find the clay and see how high it sits. Kaolin, bentonite, montmorillonite, illite, Moroccan lava clay and French green clay are the names to look for. If the first one you find is at position fifteen, you are buying a moisturiser with a pinch of clay in it. In the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask kaolin is second and bentonite third, directly after water. That is the real thing.

Then check what is doing the colour. Natural clay comes in white, grey, green and red-brown. If a mask is bright blue, pink or charcoal-black and there is a CI number near the bottom of the list, the colour is a decision rather than a consequence. Neither is bad, but it tells you how much of the product is formulation and how much is presentation.

The 98.4 percent figure, and what it actually measures

Medicube publishes three numbers on the pack, and one of them is doing a lot of work in people’s heads.

The footnote says these are excerpted from Medicube’s own test report and survey, and the brand’s own site states the results are measured immediately after one use.

That last clause is the whole story. Ninety-eight point four percent of the debris sitting in your pores removed immediately after you have spread clay on your face and washed it off is close to a description of washing your face. It is not a claim about what the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask does to your skin over weeks. Nobody measured that.

The 14.77 percent blackhead figure is the honest one and the one we would weigh. Blackheads are oxidised plugs that sit deeper than surface debris, and shifting nearly fifteen percent of them in a single use is a real, unglamorous result. It is also the smallest number on the pack, which tells you something about how these panels get designed.

No participant count is published, no independent lab is named, and the survey and instrumental parts are not separated. That is weaker evidence than we would like, and weaker than some products we sell disclose.

Medicube publishes three figures from its own test report. The 98.4 percent is measured immediately after a single use.

The Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask cooling is a chemical, not the clay

Medicube also claims an instant skin temperature drop of 20.77 degrees Fahrenheit after one use, illustrated with thermal camera images.

Clay does cool skin slightly as water evaporates from it. But the ingredient responsible for the cooling sensation in the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask is methyl diisopropyl propionamide at position forty-four — a synthetic cooling agent from the same family as the compounds used in mints and shaving products. It triggers the cold receptors in your skin without changing much underneath.

We mention this because the cooling feels like evidence that the mask is working, and it is not. It is a well-made sensory cue. Enjoy it, but do not read it as proof of anything.

The blue colour is added

The Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask is a distinctive pale blue and nothing in the clay base is that colour. Two colourants at the very end of the list do it: ferric ammonium ferrocyanide, listed as CI 77510 and better known as Prussian blue, at forty-nine, and guaiazulene at fifty.

Neither is a problem. Guaiazulene is derived from chamomile and has a mild soothing reputation of its own. We point it out only because a blue clay mask invites you to assume the blue is the clay, and here it is not.

Fourteen botanical extracts, positions eleven to twenty-four

Cynanchum atratum, hollyhock, evening primrose, longleaf pine, kudzu root, elm root, persimmon leaf, grape, safflower, coffee, Japanese knotweed, green tea, chestnut shell and Sichuan pepper. A long, pleasant-sounding run in the middle of the list. Below the citrus oils, above the functional ingredients. Treat them as texture and story rather than as reasons to buy.

Copper tripeptide-1, forty-fifth

A well-researched peptide with real evidence behind it — at working concentrations, in leave-on products. Forty-fifth of fifty in a mask you rinse off after five minutes is neither.

Caffeine, forty-seventh

Same story. Present, named, and too low and too briefly in contact to matter.

Sodium hyaluronate, sixth

This one is high enough to count. It is why the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask does not leave skin as tight as a plain bentonite mask would.

How to use the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask

Cleanse first, then dry your face completely. This one goes on dry skin, not damp — wet skin thins the clay and it will not set.
Squeeze out an amount roughly the size of a large coin and spread an even layer, avoiding eyes and lips.
Leave three to five minutes, until the surface has dried and lightened. Medicube says three minutes; how long it takes depends on how thickly you applied it.
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Do not scrub it off — soften it with water first and it lifts away.
Follow with a hydrating toner and a moisturiser. Clay leaves skin ready to take both.

Do not let it dry to cracking. A clay mask that has gone past dry is pulling moisture out of your skin, not oil out of your pores, and that is where the tight, red, over-stripped feeling comes from.

One practical note: several of Medicube’s product images show a silicone applicator brush beside the tube. The brush is not included — their own footnote says so. Fingers work fine.

How often to use the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask

Once or twice a week. That is our recommendation and it is more conservative than most sellers will give you.

Bentonite at position three is a serious oil absorber, and there are three acids and three citrus oils in the same formula. Used every other day on skin that is already dry or compromised, the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask will take you well past clean.

If you also use a retinoid, an acid toner or benzoyl peroxide, keep this to once a week and never on the same night as a fresh acid. If your skin is oily and resilient, twice a week is reasonable. Start at once and let your skin set the pace.

How the Medicube Blackhead Mud Mask suits this climate

Well, and for a specific reason. Dhaka humidity plus heat plus dust is a combination that fills pores faster than a temperate climate does, and a weekly clay mask genuinely clears what a daily cleanser leaves behind. Between April and October this earns its place in a routine here.

Two local cautions. First, clay dries faster in air conditioning than the three-minute instruction assumes — check it at three minutes rather than setting a timer for five. Second, the reverse problem in monsoon humidity, where it may not dry properly at all; apply a thinner layer rather than waiting longer.

And the citrus oils. Bergamot in a country with this much sun is worth a second thought if you are using this in the morning. We would keep it to evenings.

Good fit: oily and combination skin, visible blackheads on the nose and chin, enlarged pores, midday shine, and anyone whose skin gets congested in humidity.

Poor fit: dry or dehydrated skin, an already-compromised barrier, active inflamed acne, rosacea-prone or reactive skin, and anyone who has had trouble with citrus essential oils. Bentonite plus three acids plus bergamot is a lot of inputs for sensitive skin to absorb at once.

Not for use on broken skin, and keep it away from the eye area.

Medicube’s Korean filing gives 24 months unopened and 12 months after opening, made in Korea by Cosmax.

Twelve months after opening is generous — twice what the Korean serums we stock allow — and it comfortably covers a 100 g tube used weekly. A full-face layer is roughly 4 to 5 g, so expect around twenty to twenty-five uses, or about five months at once a week.

That works out to roughly sixty-five to eighty taka per use. For a clay mask that is fair rather than cheap, and the tube format keeps air out far better than the jars most clay masks come in.
