Description
What the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser is
The Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser is a 120 g solid cleanser with the texture of soft dough. It does not pour, it does not foam much, and it is the palest blue-grey rather than the vivid blue the photographs suggest. You take a pea-sized piece, warm it between wet palms until it loosens into a thin cream, and work that over damp skin.
It is the third of four cleansers in Arencia’s rice mochi range that we stock, and it is the one built around clay. Where the Calendula version relies on ground almond alone to do the scrubbing, the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser adds kaolin clay to that same almond meal. That single addition is what changes how it behaves on oily skin.
Twenty-one ingredients. Fragranced. Made in Korea. It is also, by a wide margin, the shortest formula in the range, and that is the first thing worth understanding about it.

The hyssop is at 1.05 ppm — and Arencia prints the number
Hyssopus officinalis extract is the last ingredient of twenty-one, and Arencia declares its concentration on the pack: 1.05 ppm. One part per million is 0.0001 percent. At 1.05 ppm, a 120 g jar of the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser contains roughly 0.13 milligrams of hyssop extract in total.
We want to be fair to the brand here. Arencia did not hide that figure — it is printed on their own ingredient panel, which is more transparency than most Korean brands offer. But the product is named after the ingredient, the marketing is built on it, and 0.13 milligrams across a four-month jar is not doing the work.
If you have been looking at the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser because you read that hyssop is astringent and anti-inflammatory, that research may well be sound. It is simply not relevant at this dose. Buy this cleanser for the clay and the almond meal, which are present in quantities that matter, and treat the hyssop as the reason for the name.
So what actually does the work?
Four ingredient groups carry this formula, and none of them is hyssop.
The surfactants
Sodium cocoyl isethionate is third, sodium cocoyl glycinate fifth, sodium methyl cocoyl taurate eighth. All three are coconut-derived and all three are mild by the standards of the category. There is no SLS or SLES anywhere in the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser. This is the same surfactant system Arencia uses across the range, and it is the main reason these cleansers do not leave skin tight.
The kaolin
Kaolin sits eleventh. It is a soft white clay that absorbs oil and adds slip and body to the dough. It is the gentlest of the common cosmetic clays — considerably less aggressive than bentonite. This is the ingredient that makes the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser the pick of the range for oily and combination skin.
The almond meal
Prunus amygdalus dulcis seed meal is fourth, one place higher than it sits in the Calendula version. It is finely milled sweet almond, and it is the physical scrub. Fourth place means there is a real quantity of it.
The humectant base
Glycerin is first, ahead of water. That is unusual and it is the reason the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser has a dough texture instead of a cream one. Glycerin also does the actual hydrating that the marketing attributes to botanicals.

The full ingredient list — all twenty-one
This is Arencia’s own panel, transcribed in label order. Twenty-one ingredients, against fifty-two in the Fresh Green at the same price.
Glycerin, Water, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Meal, Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate, Coconut Acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Powder, Fragrance, Kaolin, Sodium Isethionate, Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate, Glyceryl Stearate, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Chloride, Dextrin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Hyssopus Officinalis Extract (1.05 ppm).
Twenty-one is not a criticism on its own. Short formulas are often the better choice for reactive skin, and there is nothing in this list we would call filler. But if you were choosing between the four Arencia cleansers on the assumption that they are equivalent products at an equivalent price, they are not.

Three Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser claims that do not survive the ingredient list
We sell this cleanser and we still think you should see these.
Bentonite clay
Arencia’s own key-ingredient graphic lists bentonite clay. The ingredient list does not contain bentonite. It contains kaolin. These are different clays with different behaviour — bentonite swells and pulls harder, kaolin is milder. The Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser contains the milder one, which for most people is the better outcome, but the graphic is wrong.
Chaga mushroom and sea water
Several retailers describe this product as containing chaga mushroom extract and sea water. Neither appears anywhere in Arencia’s twenty-one-ingredient list. We cannot tell you where that copy originated, only that it does not match the pack.
Twenty-plus plant ingredients
The phrase circulates widely. The entire formula is twenty-one ingredients, of which roughly six are botanical extracts or plant powders. The rest are surfactants, clay, salts, a thickener, a preservative system and fragrance.
The fragrance sits at ten of twenty-one
Fragrance is the tenth ingredient. In the Calendula version it is eighteenth of twenty-five. That is a real difference in position, and it is the single biggest reason to pick one of these two over the other.
A caveat you should have: ingredients below one percent may be listed in any order, so position ten does not prove the fragrance load is high. What it does tell you is that Arencia chose to list it above kaolin, above green tea and above the hyssop the product is named for. Draw your own conclusion.
Arencia does not publish what is in that fragrance, and Korean law does not require it to. So we cannot tell you whether it contains any of the twenty-six allergens the EU asks brands to declare separately. If scented cleansers have caused you trouble, treat the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser as a scented product and patch test on your inner forearm for three days first. If you want the same texture with fragrance further down the list, the Calendula is the one to look at.
Almond meal is a tree nut — read this first
Prunus amygdalus dulcis seed meal, ground sweet almond, is the fourth ingredient of twenty-one. It is both the scrub particle and a tree nut protein sitting well above the one percent line.
Anyone with a diagnosed tree nut allergy should not buy the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser. That is not boilerplate. Almond is present in quantity, the product goes on your face, and rinsing does not make a protein disappear. Every cleanser in this Arencia range contains it, so switching to a sibling will not solve the problem — check each list yourself rather than assuming.
It is a scrub and a clay wash — treat it like both
Two things in the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser can be overdone. The almond meal is a physical exfoliant. The kaolin absorbs oil. Used every day on skin that is already dry or compromised, that combination will strip you.
Our honest recommendation is three to four times a week to start, at night, and let your skin tell you whether to go up or down. If you are also using a retinoid, an acid toner or benzoyl peroxide, keep the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser to twice a week and never on the same night as a fresh acid.
Do not use it on active, inflamed acne. Scrubbing a pustule spreads it and prolongs the mark. That is true of every physical exfoliant, not just this one.
How to use the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser
- Wet your face and hands with lukewarm water. Cold water will not soften the dough.
- Scoop a pea-sized piece, roughly one gram, with dry or damp fingers.
- Warm it between your palms for ten to fifteen seconds until it slackens into a thin cream. It will foam a little, not a lot.
- Massage over damp skin in small circles for about thirty seconds. Do not press. The almond meal does not need help.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and pat dry.
- As a weekly mask, apply a thicker layer to damp skin, leave five to ten minutes, then rinse. Do not let it dry hard and crack.
Keep water out of the jar. A wet scoop introduces moisture into a low-water product, and low-water products carry a lighter preservative load precisely because they stay dry.

The Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser clinical claims, and what is not published
Arencia states three test results on the pack: safe for sensitive skin, blackheads reduced by 13 percent, hydration lasting 48 hours.
We have not been able to find a published study behind any of them — no participant count, no duration, no measurement method, no independent lab named. That does not make the claims false. It does mean nobody outside Arencia can check them, and a 13 percent figure with no methodology attached tells you very little on its own.
The sensitive-skin claim also sits awkwardly beside fragrance at position ten. Those two statements can both be technically true — a fragranced product can pass a patch test panel — but if you have reactive skin, the fragrance is the fact we would weigh more heavily.
How the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser suits this climate
Dhaka humidity is the case this product is actually good for. Oil production rises with temperature, sweat sits on the skin, and a mild clay wash at the end of the day does more useful work here than it would in a dry climate. The kaolin in the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser is doing something real between April and October.
Two warnings that are specific to us. First, a dough-textured cleanser softens in heat; if the jar has been sitting in a hot room the texture will be looser than you expect and you will use more than you need. Second, air-conditioned offices dry skin out at the same time humidity is stripping it outside, so the same person can need this cleanser four times a week in July and twice a week in January.
Who the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser suits
Good fit: oily and combination skin, visible congestion around the nose and chin, people who want one product to do a face wash and a weekly clay mask, and anyone moving off a foaming sulfate cleanser who still wants the scrubbed-clean feeling.
Poor fit: dry or dehydrated skin, active or inflamed acne, anyone using a retinoid nightly, tree nut allergy, and reactive skin that has flared on fragranced cleansers before. In those cases the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser is the wrong one of the four, not the wrong brand.
The Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser against its three siblings
All four are 120 g, all four use the same coconut surfactants and the same almond meal, and all four sit within a hundred taka of each other. What separates them is the ingredient count, the second exfoliant and where the fragrance sits.
- Arencia Fresh Green Rice Mochi Cleanser — fifty-two ingredients, the most complex formula of the four and the one we would pick on ingredient value alone.
- Arencia Calendula Rice Mochi Cleanser — twenty-five ingredients, no clay, fragrance at eighteen of twenty-five. The gentlest of the four.
- Arencia Fresh Blue Hyssop Rice Mochi Cleanser — twenty-one ingredients, kaolin clay, fragrance at ten. The one for oily skin.
- Arencia Black Tea Rice Mochi Cleanser — see that page for its own list.
If your skin is oily and congested, the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser is the right pick despite being the shortest formula. If it is not, one of the others almost certainly serves you better for the same money.
What 120 g of the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser works out to per wash
A pea-sized scoop is roughly one gram, so a 120 g jar gives about 120 washes used once daily, or four months at the three-to-four-times-a-week schedule we recommend. At the shelf price that is a little under fifteen taka a wash.
Whether that is good value depends on the comparison. Against a drugstore foaming cleanser it is expensive. Against a cleanser plus a separate clay mask plus a separate scrub, the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser is replacing three products with one jar, and the arithmetic looks different. We would rather hand you the numbers than a verdict.
Questions we get asked
Is the hyssop really doing nothing?
At 1.05 ppm, nothing you could measure. We are not aware of any evidence that hyssop extract does anything to skin at 0.0001 percent. Arencia printed the figure themselves, which we respect; we are just reading it out loud.
Is the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser actually blue?
Pale blue-grey, closer to the brand photographs than most colour claims turn out to be. There is no colourant in the ingredient list, so the shade comes from the clay and plant material in the base.
Will the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser remove sunscreen?
It will handle a light chemical sunscreen on its own. For a heavy mineral SPF, waterproof formulas or full makeup, use an oil or balm first and this second. Arencia markets it as a one-step makeup remover; we think that oversells it.
Can I use the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser every day?
You can, but we would not start there. Three to four nights a week, then adjust. Daily use of a clay-plus-scrub cleanser is how people end up with a damaged barrier and blame the wrong product.
Is the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser vegan?
Nothing in the twenty-one-ingredient list is animal-derived. Arencia does not carry a vegan certification that we can verify, so we will state the ingredient fact and stop there.
Is it safe in pregnancy?
There is nothing in the list that is commonly restricted in pregnancy. That is an observation about ingredients, not medical advice — ask your doctor about anything you put on your skin while pregnant.
How long does an opened jar last?
Arencia does not print a period-after-opening symbol that we have been able to confirm, so we will not invent one. Keep the jar dry, keep it out of direct sun, and if the texture, smell or colour changes, stop using it.
How we store and ship it
Stock sits in air-conditioned storage in Dhaka until it goes out. A dough-textured cleanser tolerates heat better than an emulsion, but a jar that has spent a week at forty degrees is not the product the brand formulated, and Bangladesh offers plenty of chances to find that out.
Your Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser is sealed when it leaves us and it is stock we imported ourselves, not a jar bought from another local seller and passed on. If what arrives is damaged, raise it with us the day it lands and we will replace it.
Where the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser fits in your routine
Evening, as the second step after an oil or balm if you have worn sunscreen or makeup, or as the only cleanser on a bare-skin day. Follow with a hydrating toner and a moisturiser, because clay plus scrub will leave skin ready to absorb both.
In the morning, water alone is enough for most people. If you must cleanse twice daily, use the Arencia Blue Hyssop Cleanser at night and something gentler at sunrise.
