Arencia Calendula Cleanser is the warm-amber jar of the four Rice Mochi cleansers, sold for dry, rough and sensitive skin. It has the same soft cleansing dough, the same mild surfactants, and one fact the brand does not publish anywhere: the calendula it is named after is present at 1 ppm. That is 0.0001%. This page explains what that means, what is actually doing the work, and who should still buy it.

What the Arencia Calendula Cleanser is

It is a solid cleansing dough in a 120 g jar, one of four Rice Mochi variants Arencia makes. You wet your hands, take a small amount, and work it into a soft foam.

The four are sorted by skin type. Fresh Green is for acne-prone and congested skin, this one is for dry and sensitive skin, Blue Hyssop is for oily skin and Black Tea is for balanced skin.

Arencia’s manufacturing story is that each jar is hand-kneaded over 7,200 times through a 72-hour low-temperature fermentation. That is a production narrative rather than a measurable claim, and we report it as one.

The calendula is at 1 ppm

Here is the part that matters, and you will not find it on Arencia’s website because Arencia does not publish an ingredient list at all.

The published INCI for the Arencia Calendula Cleanser reads, in part: Calendula Officinalis Extract (1 Ppm). The brand printed the quantity themselves. One part per million is 0.0001% — a few molecules per jar, present at a level with no plausible effect on your skin.

Calendula is a real ingredient with real soothing evidence behind it at meaningful concentrations. At 1 ppm it is a name on a label.

We are not accusing Arencia of anything. They declared the figure, which is more than most brands do, and calendula-scented, calendula-branded products at trace levels are standard across the whole industry. But you are being asked to choose this jar over its three siblings on the strength of the calendula, and the calendula is not why it works.

So what does the work?

Look at the top of the list instead. Glycerin is first, ahead of water — unusual, and the reason the Arencia Calendula Cleanser does not leave skin tight.

Then three mild surfactants: sodium cocoyl isethionate, sodium cocoyl glycinate and sodium methyl cocoyl taurate. No sodium lauryl sulfate, no laureth sulfate, no soap. That is a genuinely good cleansing system and it is the same one across all four Rice Mochi cleansers.

Then the exfoliants: sweet almond seed meal fifth, cellulose ninth, rice powder tenth, and apple fibre twelfth — the one physical exfoliant unique to the Arencia Calendula Cleanser. Witch hazel follows for pore appearance.

That is the product. Everything after position seventeen is present in fractions of a percent.

Since the brand publishes none, here is the complete list from the ingredient databases. Note that it is half the length of the Fresh Green formula, which runs to fifty-two ingredients at the same price.

A shorter list is not automatically worse — for sensitive skin it is often better. But if you were choosing between the two on the assumption that more botanicals meant more care, the opposite is closer to the truth here.

Two things to weigh before ordering

• It is fragranced. Fragrance sits eighteenth. The Arencia Calendula Cleanser is sold for sensitive skin and it is perfumed. Those are not incompatible for most people, but if fragrance is a hard no for you, our CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser is genuinely fragrance-free.
• Sweet almond seed meal is fifth. Almond is a tree nut, and here it is one of the scrub particles rather than a trace extract. If there is a nut allergy in your household, do not buy this jar without checking.

It is a scrub — treat it like one

Almond meal, cellulose, rice powder and apple fibre all sit in the top twelve. However soft the mochi feels, the Arencia Calendula Cleanser is a physical exfoliant.

Arencia positions it as a daily cleanser. Our advice is more conservative, because daily physical exfoliation on dry, sensitive skin — the exact skin this is sold for — is how barriers get damaged.

• Start twice a week. Increase only if your skin is visibly happy.
• Lather first. Never scrub the raw dough into your face.
• Never on the same day as an acid or retinoid.
• Stop if skin feels tight afterwards. That is over-exfoliation, not cleansing.

How to use the Arencia Calendula Cleanser

The direction on the Arencia Calendula Cleanser: take a small amount, lather with water into a soft foam, massage in circular motions, rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

As a weekly extra, apply a thicker layer and leave it as a wash-off mask for one to two minutes.

Two additions from experience. Wet your hands before touching the jar — dry fingers drag the dough and waste it. And keep the jar out of the shower; a solid cleanser sitting in spray goes gummy, and it happens fast in Bangladeshi humidity.

How it suits this climate

The Arencia Calendula Cleanser is the driest-skin variant of a range built for Korean weather, which is a slightly awkward fit for Dhaka.

In cool, dry months it is genuinely comfortable — the glycerin-first base and gentle surfactants leave skin soft rather than squeaky.

In monsoon and summer, most people with dry skin here are less dry than they are in January, and may prefer the lighter Blue Hyssop version for those months. Buying by season rather than by year is reasonable with a product this cheap per use.

On hard water: if skin feels tight after cleansing and you have blamed the product, try a final rinse with filtered water before writing it off. Much of Dhaka’s supply is hard enough to leave residue.

Who the Arencia Calendula Cleanser suits

Buy the Arencia Calendula Cleanser if: your skin is dry, rough or flaky; you want gentle physical exfoliation without a harsh scrub; you like the ritual and the texture; or you want a sulfate-free cleanser that will not strip.

Look elsewhere if: you need fragrance-free; there is a nut allergy in the household; your skin is genuinely reactive; you already exfoliate chemically; or you are buying it specifically for the calendula, which is the one reason on this page we would talk you out of.

What Arencia does not publish

• The ingredient list itself. That is the headline gap and it applies across the whole range.
• No percentages for anything except the calendula, and that one is 1 ppm.
• No pH figure, which is genuinely useful for a cleanser.
• No clinical data for this variant. The instrumental study Arencia publishes covers the Fresh Green version, not this one.
• No period-after-opening on the global site; go by the printed date on the jar.

The Arencia Calendula Cleanser against the alternatives

Against the Fresh Green version. Fifty-two ingredients versus twenty-five, and a published clinical study versus none. If you want the more developed formula, Fresh Green is it — even if your skin is dry rather than congested.

Against a cream cleanser. For genuinely dry skin, a non-foaming cream cleanser strips less than any foaming product will. The Arencia Calendula Cleanser is mild for a foaming cleanser, but it still foams.

Against a chemical exfoliant. An acid exfoliates evenly and keeps working after rinsing. A scrub only touches what you rub. For dry skin, a lactic acid is gentler than either.

Against the 50 g size. Same formula, worse value per gram. We stock the 120 g because this is a jar people finish.

What a rice mochi cleanser actually is

The mochi in the name is a texture description, not an ingredient. Scoop the Arencia Calendula Cleanser out of its jar and it behaves like soft dough. It holds a fingerprint, it does not run, and it will not pour. You warm a pea-sized piece between wet palms until it slackens into a thin cream, then work that over damp skin. It never foams the way a pump cleanser does, and the first time you use it that absence feels like the product is not working. It is.

The format exists for a practical reason. A solid, low-water product needs less preservative load than a liquid one and tolerates a jar being opened with wet fingers every morning. It also means the Arencia Calendula Cleanser ships as 120 g of mostly product rather than 120 ml of mostly water, which is where the price begins to make sense against a foaming cleanser of the same volume.

Reading a Korean ingredient list yourself

Ingredients on a Korean label are ordered by weight down to one percent. Below that line the brand may arrange them however it likes, which is why actives and fragrance cluster near the bottom of almost everything on your shelf. The useful skill is knowing where the one percent line falls.

On the Arencia Calendula Cleanser that line is unusually easy to find, because the brand printed a concentration beside its own marketing ingredient: calendula extract at 1 ppm. One part per million is 0.0001 percent. Every ingredient listed after it sits at or below that figure. Everything listed before it is a cleansing, thickening or scrubbing agent doing the real work.

We would rather you learn that arithmetic than take our word for it. Once you can read a list this way, no brand can sell you a hero ingredient on the strength of its name alone, and that includes the name printed on this jar.

The fragrance sits at position eighteen

Fragrance appears eighteenth of twenty-five on the Arencia Calendula Cleanser. That places it below the one percent line, so the amount is small, but small is not zero and it is not the last ingredient either. If perfume in a cleanser has caused you trouble before, that position is the number you should be weighing, not the calendula.

Arencia does not publish the composition of that fragrance, and no Korean brand is required to. So we cannot tell you whether it contains any of the twenty-six allergens the EU asks brands to declare separately. If you react to scented products, the honest advice is to treat the Arencia Calendula Cleanser as a scented product and patch test on your inner forearm for three days before it goes anywhere near your face.

Almond meal is a tree nut — read this first

Prunus amygdalus dulcis seed meal, ground sweet almond, is the fifth ingredient. It is both the scrub particle and a tree nut protein sitting high in the list, well above the one percent line.

Anyone with a diagnosed tree nut allergy should not buy the Arencia Calendula Cleanser. That is not a hedge or a legal line at the bottom of a page. Almond is present in a meaningful quantity, the product goes on your face, and rinse-off does not make a protein disappear. If nut allergy is a factor in your household, one of the other three cleansers in this range may still suit you, but check each list yourself rather than assuming.

What 120 g works out to per wash

A pea-sized scoop is roughly one gram, so a 120 g jar of the Arencia Calendula Cleanser gives you around 120 washes if you use it once daily. At the shelf price that is a little under fifteen taka a wash, and closer to thirty if you cleanse morning and evening.

Whether that is good value depends entirely on what you are comparing it against. Set beside a drugstore foaming cleanser it is expensive. Set beside a scrub you would otherwise buy separately it is reasonable, because the Arencia Calendula Cleanser is doing both jobs from one jar. We would rather give you the arithmetic than a verdict.

How we store and ship it

Everything sits in air-conditioned storage in Dhaka until it goes out. A dough-textured cleanser is more forgiving of heat than an emulsion, but a jar that has spent a week at forty degrees in a warehouse is not the product the brand formulated, and Bangladesh gives you plenty of chances to find that out.
